Massdrop is selling these right now, usually 90$ now 45$. great option for the budget audiophile. Anyone heard these? Thinking of getting the MASSDROP X SENNHEISER HD 58X JUBILEE headphones and this for a dac/amp for my nephew. He’s never had a good headphone.
That’s pretty good, and on Amazon you can get it for 60 USD prime shipped.
I feel that would be a great setup imo, as the 58x isn’t really amp picky and it would get the job done. It’s a decent dac/amp, but for 45 bucks I don’t really think you could go that wrong. It falls under the cheap and good category that gets the job done
The X6 is a great starter amp/dac. I used one for several months before upgrading to a Schiit stack. The X6 is definitely good enough to get someone into the hobby. I passed mine onto the kids’ gaming computer. It’s been there a few months now too. They’ve not treated it great, but still works well.
I’ve not heard the 58X but it seems to have near universal claim. I bet they’re a good combo.
The nice thing about the 58x is that it still sounds good even on a phone, so it is pretty easy to drive and happy with most amps you can give it. Also not too harsh on poorly recorded music as other headphones. And the comfort and build are great for the price so it ends up making a great beginner to intermediate headphone imo
Yeah, with the 58x being 150 ohms and also not really revealing of the amp, I don’t think it should be an issue. I thought it was around 3-4 ohms output on the X6
Been rocking this amp since the end of January, bought in December and took almost 2 months to get them from China. (custom offices sucks)
I am using him with a pair of HD58X and K712 Pro. No noise, at least that I can hear, and no problem driving any of the two. With the Sennheiser, I usually sit around 10 o’clock; and with the AKG around 12 o’clock. Never tried the line out on them, but they should be fine, I update here if anything is wrong.
It is small and well build. The controls are nice and with a good feel. My only complaint is I sometimes touch the 1/4" connector, and have a small “shock” sensation these times. But this is only if you’re like turning them all around a lot, I usually set the volume and change very little when I change my phones.
They are a nice solution if you’re in a budget. For me, it is an audible upgrade from onboard sound.
