Back to reviving this thread. I’ve been looking into this thing’s “smaller brother”, the FX-Audio DAC X3. Been wondering if that’s any good, and if anyone has any recommendations at a really low budget.
IMO it’s alright, but I would personally say you would just want to wait until you can get a more solid amp and plug it into a phone or something, I would only get something like the x6 or x3 if you are extremely budget limited and have very power hungry cans. Reason being that the x6 and x3 are marginal upgrades over decent motherboard audio or phone audio for somewhat easy to drive things imo, I think it would just be better off to save the money later on
Thanks for the input. Got any recommendations for a good one that I should save up for?
What are you planning on using with it?
Getting AKG K551s soon-ish. Basically something that can drive relatively low impedance cans decently, preferrably with a line out.
Ah gotcha. I personally really like the fiio k5 pro for what it can do, and the quality of sound for the price. Although it has a pre out instead of line out. Looking around you can also typically find an xduoo xd05 for the 130 ish range which is actually a portable but has plenty of power and quality, and also has a line out too. I think if you wanted to go lower, I would grab something like a schiit magni 3+ and a rca to 3.5mm and use motherboard/laptop/phone audio as your dac imo
Will keep this in mind, what are your thoughts on the Schiit Fulla though, is it as at least about good as the Magni?
FX amps are hold over amps. You use them till you can get something better lol
IMO not my preferred as the dac in there is somewhat mediocre and the amp isn’t as good as the magni, that being said, I do think it’s solid enough and something I would rate higher than the fx audio stuff
Alright, thanks for the info. Bookmarked for future reference once I can afford.
Just gonna throw this out here if you just want something clean sounding and can be used as a dac in the future for cheap the meizu hd pro is honestly really good for both it’s form factor and price. I prefer the sound of omit over a DAC x6
look at this one! only 30$ for a dac/amp!
The real question at that point is … Is it any better than on board
It is separate from the computer and amplifys the sound
That’s the main question here, you might be getting a bit better sound, but imo you would just be better off saving and sticking with onboard
Yes but PC’s these days are decent enough that it’s it could very well sound basically the same with the same amount of power.
And power isn’t everything of course, you get more than power from a quality amp
Sdamn $25 is a good price for it super clean for that price
Thats why i said they are hold overs. something you can use to get enough volume to the headphones that need it
