If you are thinking about getting the Rebel amp it may not be a bad idea to get it now. The problems with regard to Russia may make it a bit tough to get in the near future.
My power chord from audioquest does not go as deep into the outlet as other cords. Yet when compared with others they seem to have exactly the same dimensions.
Anyone else have such a large gap?
slight gap with my amazon cable
Yes with my āCable Creationā brand cable bought at Amazon its about half the gap as shown with my audioquest. I have no problems with the sound.
It appears to be ever so slightly smoother with the Audioquest.
I know its probably my mind playing tricks.
LoL
anyone have an updated recommendation for the rebelamp? I have the schiiit modi multibit.
The Rebel has great dynamics and a very rich sound. However as of late im finding it not to be as transparent as my thx 887. Sounds a bit grainy in the upper range. The 887 has a smoother high end and a more uncolored sound. Voices sound more natural on the 887.
However all of this could be my ess sabre dac not being the best pairing with the Rebel.
Btw the Rebel is built like a tank and has the best
Volume control that i ever used.
Had many problems with the potentiometers of other amps.
Youāre probably right. I always tell people the Rebel is very colored, so not surprised you find it to be that versus a more analytical / neutral amp.
Agree on the knob, its so buttery smooth with some weight to it, its just fun to spin, almost therapeutic.
I just donāt understand why those thx amps cannot use a half decent alps potentiometer. How much more can it cost? I would easily pay the additional cost. I canāt begin to tell you how many problems i have had with those scratchy pots that get worse over time.
Does the topping A90 use an alps pot that is not glued on to the knob?
its funny you say this because, for example, Schiit uses Alps and Iāve found their knobs suck. Are there like 2 tiers of Alps, trash and heavenly?
Wow suprising. Are the schiit knobs also glued on? The Rebel knob has that screw hole for removal. I have seen one owner put on a different knob on the Rebel black version which looked great and a vast improvement in the looks of the amp.
that was me.
The schiit knobs are not glued on, replaced my valhalla knob as well, but the pot is kinda loose and scratchy feeling. Lokius knobs blow, and Loki knobs are passable but not āniceā and smooth feeling like the Rebel
Ha Ha sorry for not recognizing your post Mat. Yes that black knob looks great! What was the cost of that aftermarket knob?
thereās a link above, like $10?
Can anyone recommend headphones in the 400 to 600 price range that pairs well with the Rebel amp? I donāt have any favorite sound signitures. Currently have the Elex ,6xx and hifiman he 400i.
Like the dynamics of focal and the smoothness of sennheiser. Not crazy about the 400i. Sounds too sharp in the highs.
Just found out, price hike, Rebel is now $660
Funny how impressions change. I now prefer my elex on my monoprice 887. Softer top end with a more natural sound. Also more transparent.
However just bought the 660s and it definitely, at this point, sounds better on the Rebel. Too flat and a bit dull on the 887. More lush sounding with greater clarity and dynamics on the Rebel. Its all about compatibility.
Suprising that the Rebel is now $660. Thats a 32% increase! The singxer is now very appealing at $600 if the price doesnāt increase.
Fyi dragonflyās also increased by 10%. Cobalt now $330 which is crazy expensive.
Just wondering if Artem from Rebel kind of knocked himself out of the competition with the new pricing of $660.
Your thoughts?
With the Flux FA-12S now $100 cheaper (than the Rebel) and the Schiit Jot $250+ cheaper, I can see a lot of online discussions tilting away from Rebel now. When Rebel was cheaper than the Flux equivalent it looked like a worthy upgrade from the Jot.
Thanks for the info. I have to correct myself with regards to the Singxer. Itās a class A/B amp. Have you heard the singxer? Any thoughts?
