I think itā€™s done that way to avoid switching from Low to High by mistake. With those 3 way switches itā€™s common to miss the middle when switching.

Sorry, I donā€™t mean to be discouraging. I was looking for differences between the THX and the RebelAmp. It does sound very good, and I have found that I am more inclined to listen to the RebelAmp rather than the THX since I got it. Maybe thatā€™s because itā€™s new, but I do enjoy it.

A poster on headfi left the following feedback:

I like it. And I think it is well worth its price. Do I think it is the best amp ever - I do not. I havenā€™t heard THX or Neve, so canā€™t comment on that. The reason why I bought it was that I was going for a different sound signature than the THX. Interestingly the difference when using my Beyerdynamic t1.2 straight out of the hugo2go or hugo2go feeding the rebel amp isnā€™t that big, which is maybe saying something about the rebel amp. I definitely get more background noise when using the hugo2go with the rebelamp but I also get a more meatier low end and a little warmth which I prefer.

The 2go has me trying out a lot of stuff and just ordered some new cables to test out because the 2go is doing something to my stereo system. The music has blackest and quietest back ground but also can sound a bit thin, uninvolving and not as ā€œmusicalā€ as before. Maybe it is just my brain adjusting to the new sound but it is harder for me adjusting to the 2go/Hugo combi then it was with the mojo/poly combi.

Firstly, I am music first kinda audiophile and donā€™t know that much about gear. As I wrote in my post I havenā€™t heard the THX but I considered it for a long time. I have previously owned different class-d (I donā€™t know the design the THX uses) amplifiers and I decided that I was never again gonna be swayed by pure watts as the amps I owned became boring, cold and clinical to listen to. The rebel amp is pure class-a and has considerably less power then the THX, but my hopes was that I was gonna get a musical and more involving kind of amp. I am not at all let down. I would say it has a ā€œreferenceā€ tuning and not overly warm. I havenā€™t had that much time to play around with it since I (as you know) just bought the 2go. I can say that it is not the most holographic amp and with the hugo2go there is some audible noise. That could be the limitations of the amp or it could be that I am simply using a random black power cable hooked up to a basic power strip and that the amp is simply reacting to the not so pure power that I am feeding it. I donā€™t know as I have not tested it out yet.

They are available on the RebelAmp website now, and it sounds like several people on here have ordered one. Have any of you gotten tracking information? Will they be arriving soon? Iā€™m really curious to hear other peopleā€™s opinions.

I ordered on April 23rd, shipping label for UPS created on the 24th and it was dropped off to UPS for shipping on the 27th.

I have a delay on my tracking info (We were unable to load the package on the plane as scheduled.) but itā€™s Tuesday so hopefully back on schedule soon. I donā€™t know when Iā€™ll actually receive it.

Usually receive your order within 7 - 10 days from order placement. Got mine today, order was placed on the 21st of April

Just a heads up for any other Canadians looking to purchase;
UPS import fees on this order totaled $102.53 CAD. Thatā€™s on top of the $815.86 CAD that the amp cost after current exchange rate via PayPal / Visa.

Total $918.39 CAD all in. (or about $660 USD final cost)

If weā€™re doing comparisons to the THX I believe that one costs just shy of $550.00 CAD total give or take from Drop at itā€™s current price / exchange rate / import fees.

To the recent recipients of this amp; does your volume knob rub against the enclosure like it seems to in the Zeos video?

Mine doesnā€™t.

Mine doesnā€™t rub either.

How does ups charge you? Is it tacked onto the final card charge or does it come as a separate charge you pay at the door

No, it doesnā€™t.

It cost 553 USD (53 UPS Import from Ukraine) to USA

Just to add to your numbers, the Liquid Platinum was $1,050.00, landed. We have a 15% sales tax in Nova Scotia.

But with the sale price of $549.00, it would likely slide in under $1K.

For those of you who have received them, what do you think? I am finding that I like it more and more as I use it more. It sounds clean and clear yet very musical.

I have a login associated with UPS so I got an email notification letting me know some of the delivery specifics such as the tax / duty / brokerage owed as well as that the shipment requires a signature. I was able to pre-pay the brokerage cost online as well as pre-sign for the package with instructions to leave at front door, in case I somehow missed delivery.

Otherwise they would either have you pay at the door or send you a paper invoice through the mail sometime after the package is delivered.

Today was an eye-opener. I listened to the RebelAmp while I was at work for most of the day. At the end of the day, I switched back over to the THX AAA 789, and wow. The 789 sounded veiled and less lively in comparison. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s breaking in, Iā€™m getting more used to it, or Iā€™m imagining things.

Ordered mine on Sunday, UPS says itā€™ll be here Friday. Will be powering my new Klipsch HP-3ā€™s. Currently using Modi/Heresy stack but Iā€™m giving it to a relative looking to get into audio. Will a Modi be more than enough for this? Donā€™t want to pay for features Iā€™ll never use (i.e. balanced out).

I wouldnā€™t be surprised, once you try a bit higher tier amp, the flaws of thx are apparent imo, glad you are enjoying it :+1:

Iā€™m new to the audiophile game and started with a SMSL SP200 THX 888 amp. I liked it a lot, thought the music sounded very clear and clean. I used it for around two weeks. Then I got the Rebel Amp, just yesterday, and by comparison, the Rebel Amp provides a warmer and smoother sound to me. I would say the THX sounds analytical and calculated, cold by comparison. The Rebel Amp sounds warmer and makes me enjoy music I otherwise wouldnā€™t have listened to more than once on the THX. It makes all my headphones sound ā€˜prettyā€™ as Zeos has said. Very satisfied, going to send back the SP200.

SP200 is a great amp btw, it gives you the music in the most straightforward way, but I didnā€™t realize I wanted a warmer sound until I tried the Rebel Amp. Pairs well with a D50S which is already an analytical DAC.

Agree. My THX is about to be relegated to back-up or moved to a less used place. What headphones are you using? Iā€™m glad it pairs well with the D50S. I was looking at those recently as an option for my home computer.
