I was looking for a quality upgrade iem for my tea and was wondering which one will really improve performance. I don’t know whether to buy one with more cores or more N “number”.
My options that I have seen that look good are an OFHC 24 AWG 6N high purity copper cable or another Yinyoo 4 Core 7N just copper and crystal.
I don’t know which one or if it’s better not to change the cable.
Oxygen free (ofc) should “hopefully” help slow down oxidation of a cable, same with coating a copper cable with silver or other things.
Cores are how many strands are used (before the split) and usually half that number to each ear.
N is how many “9s pure the copper is” so 4n is 99.99 and 7n is 99.99999 assuming that you are being told the truth.
AWG is the wire gauge which is oddly backwards the higher the number the smaller the diameter of the actual wire.
And what does all of this mean…
Nothing… everything.
Jokes aside as long as a cable does not have a really bizarre resistance and you are using an IEM that is really really sensitive to resistance (campfire andromeda is a classic example) most of that means really little. Find a cable you like the looks/weight/comfort of first and worry about marketing second.
It could be good, but I had too many issues with the cables that they include with their IEMs to ever be willing to consider throwing down the cost of some really good IEMs on one of their cables.
For Dunu on the other hand I am seriously considering it.
Does material make a big difference? Cause locally audiophile community has sale old and newcomer alike to buy “Cable for the best vocal clarity” or “This cable can increase bass”, So does material changes sonic performance in any way shape or form? If so by how much?
Resistance in very rare circumstances can effect how a few very sensitive IEMs behave (again campfire andromeda comes to mind), but it is not like it cares about what the cable is made of just the electrical resistance of the cable.
Different materials may make a difference in corrosion, or stiffness, or other things like that.
Generally, it shouldn’t matter too much. In the rare cases where it does or if a cable has a stupidly high resistance then yes lower is generally better.
@Rikudou_Goku has a google doc in his profile with good inexpensive (and some expensive) cables with resistances measured for your convenience.
(this is an 8 core version though, the A25 is a 6 core version, so you should ask for the 6 core version (which is using 1 sterling silver + 2 gold/copper wires on each side) if you want.)
Hakugei cables are not good because the real thing looks different/worse than on photo’s. You’re better off getting XINHS cables they are cheaper as well…
It’s actually edited like crazy. but i only wasted $100. I know someone who got their HAKUGEI White Dragon. Because its cheaper than that famous white paladium cable maker. He got ripped off even harder
