A wise decision unless you’re reviewing or you enjoy doing compares then going up a tier or two once you know your preferred sound sig that’s where the extra pays off…Don’t have an EST set but Sony’s super tweeter is amazing so don’t discount them lol…I’m still super happy with my Z1R’s hard to think where I’d go for an upgrade, source upgrade first …Would like to listen a Traillii just for shits and gigs tho.
PS I still listen to my Reecho and Peacock Spring 1 (a dope set) and IT00’s etc them all
@Rikudou_Goku Nice review! Thanks for listing the times and detail description of the songs you tested, and volume setting, it gives a better idea of the results/impressions.
Comparing EST 112 and the Monarch tonight and I feel the Monarch has ruined me. The Monarch’s tidal wave of warm rich sub bass is a force of nature that cannot be tamed and I love drowning in it.
I wrote this over at head-fi but it is regarding the EST112 and what it means for the future so I post it here as well.
Another thing to take into consideration is that now that Dunu has released an EST tribrid at this price and with the upcoming Thieaudio Excalibur/oracle (unknown price).
Chances are that it wont be very long before we see these EST iems at an even lower price, like at the 300 usd range. Dont forget, it wasnt that long ago that EST iems were above 1000 usd (fearless audio roland/lancelot). Then they got cheaper at around 800 usd (shuoer EJ07, Penon Volt). Now we have them at the 500 usd range (Dunu EST112, possibly the Excalibur/Oracle).
So it only took around 2 years from the Roland/lancelot to the EST112 to literally cut the prices in half.
I’m still trying to put my thoughts together on the EST112 (just got mine yesterday). I definitely agree with @Rikudou_Goku 's sentiment that it’s a “jack of all trades, master of none”. Everything I have thrown at it so far sounds fantastic, but there’s no specific magic or “secret sauce” that I can point to and say “THERE IT IS!” Still got a lot of listening, comparisons and tip-rolling to do, but at least at the outset I think that it’s worth the money and more. I also think that it’s the best all-rounder tribrid that I’ve heard (others being the EJ07, Tri Starlight, and Kinera Nanna 1.0); that’s not to say “best” per se, but a veritable Swiss Army IEM. I also like the cable a lot. I can’t attest to the measurement on resistance, but for feel, build and portability I have no complaints.
I suggest waiting and see what will happen after the thieaudio Excalibur/oracle gets released. Not like there is a sale right now with the EST112 anyway…
I will definitely hold off, I just started enjoying CA Ara 2 days ago or so (and they’re pure sex to me <3). I would like to have one Tribrid in collection though.
Edit, also the looks! I am a sucker for silver metallic look of any kind
