Rumors and new releases thread

I didn’t realize that Stax was bought by Edifier 10 years ago.

Can someone explain to me: Why is that Edifier S3 headphone marketed with the Stax label? The S3 is a planar magnetic, Stax built electrostatic headphones… what am I missing?

that Edifier is a major shareholder of Audeze and using their tech under the Stax name because its synonymous with excellent audio.

I think it may also be a push to make Stax a more recognized brand to the non-audiophile community.

Seems questionable to me to misuse a brand this way which is synonymous with electrostats, but what do I know… I at least - as a customer - think it’s missleading and therefore damaging to the Stax and Edifier brands ¯_(ツ)_/¯

you are in the know of who Stax is and what they make and how this is a significant departure from their specialty, so yes, this could leave a bad taste.

planar is a similar tech tho, so this could also be an attempt to expand into specialties and add planar as a strength.

it’s all supposition until time passes and we see what happens tho…

In my personal opinion Edifier’s strategy will be the polar opposite to what you have written. I highly doubt that non-audiophiles will care at all about the planar technology (would not be surprised if the vast majority of public had no idea that headphones like this exist) and I see no reason to use Stax brand marketing-wise in any way to appeal outside of the audiophile world. To me seems like Edifier is using Stax’s brand to appeal to the audiophile community and make the price tag more agreeable (for lack of better adjective). All in all 400$ is a rip-off for Edifier headphones but a bargain for the identical Stax ones.

like I said… it’s all supposition until some time has passed.

Is there a (semi closed) harmonicdyne planar on the market? Seems so but then why is it not on Linsoul? Harmonicdyne and thieaudio are Linsoul brands, right?

Headband and grill reminds me of the peacock? Rebrand?

i feel like with how harshly the harmonicdyne poseidon was reduced during sales (50% in under a year) it’d be an awful idea to buy one of these new

Zeus biggest sale has been $25 off Poseidon sale was likely because it wasn’t nearly as popular
if it’s good it’ll be a couple years before it has anything more than $50 off

maybe, but the fact they were being sold 50% off still sits wrong with me that soon after release

I think it just gives you some idea of how big the margin is on Chinese headphones. Maybe all headphones, for that matter.

I was very surprised to see the HiFiman HE-R9’s drop $599.00 to $369.00 so soon after their release. And now it seems like $369.00 is the new price. I like it for that price, but I would be pissed if I had paid $599.00.

Yes, the materials themselves arent really that expensive.

power output looks quite competitive but still less than the new Hiby which is 20€ cheaper

320mw@32ohm, pretty good
(4.4mm)

The Hiby actually is 30€ less expensive, also has MQA (so the iBasso isn’t just more expensive because MQA) and has a smaller form factor.

BTW, you can just use P= U^2/R to calculate power with a given voltage at some impedance.
