Rumors and new releases thread

What am I looking at? A DAP? Looks really chonky and gives me desktop design vibes.

I think their W prefix suggests DAC/BT-receiver DAC/AMP. But they do say all-purpose… but no (visible) microSD slot though that doesn’t rule it out. Maybe a receiver that allows playback control, perhaps especially if paired with their particular music player app (mirroring phone).

Using jacks and clip for scale, I’d say it’s either:

  • A BT receiver with good mirroring/control capabilities

or

  • A BT receiver which is actually a full DAP because it has access to local files.

No idea, there’s no real information out there besides this marketing image/render.

I do love the design though, especially that yellow one.

sizing looks like 2 Fiio BTR5/15’s glued together

Yeah, or slightly larger than Hiby’s R2 II player maybe?

Eh, turns out W4 is just a BT receiver / dongle. No onboard storage. I’m guessing the “player” shown is mirroring a smartphone for control, assuming it’s not just a mock-up that doesn’t reflect reality.

For some reason the top one reminds me of the unholy child between a set of Nighthawks and an egg series Hifiman.

That sucks

Disappointing for sure. I was excited since all I want is for Fiio to put the Echo Mini and Retro Nano into 1 device, keep the replaceable battery and charge <$100.

Bingo! Me too.

The Shanling M0 Pro is close. Boots in an instant, great as a receiver, only weakness is screen is small overall, and edge swipes don’t work when the leather case is on.

Doesn’t have the removable battery though. Tempotec V1 looks interesting, and the Shanling M1 Plus is terrific.

Must be some pretty fast planars to need drilled and slotted brakes that big.
