Rumors and new releases thread

Too bad, I was thinking about getting a Seiko 5 from drop :pensive:

A Soncoz desktop Headphone amp is coming. Looks quite similarly designed with their desktop dac, the SGD-1.

they look darn slick! anyone heard either of their DAC?

and I wonder if they’re going to make an amp to match their LA-QXD1 like they appear to be doing for the SGD1.

I’m interested to here if people think this is going to benefit our community or not. The main reasons I think it might be is because they might be able to store more product in drop warehouses, which means items will be in stock more often, they can buy in larger quantities(now that they have more room to store) that will hopefully trickle down to customers sharing in the associated discounts, and amazon can deal with non-audio/keyboard returns which should lead to better customer service for audio and keyboard products.

Part of me however just wishes that drop just completely shifts to amazon. Imagine being able to get drop discounts, but with 2-day shipping and amazon returns. Alas that would probably lead to less profit for drop and/or smaller discounts.

What do you guys think did I miss anything major in my analysis of the benefits and/or lack benefits? Does anyone oppose the change? This is a very interesting topic. @Sgtdap thanks for the post!

I was hoping they would use the fulfilled by Amazon service available, but it doesn’t appear so. everything around $200 has about a $50 shipping / taxes / import fee charge associated it with. still a nightmare to get their stuff into Canada :frowning:

Yikes that sucks, that is not what I thought was what was going to happen. I was expecting them to use the fulfilled by amazon system as well.

I think ultimately I would rather buy from the smaller companies directly or through their Amazon page rather than having Drop be a second middleman taking a cut for themselves when they aren’t wanting to support those communities.

I remember when Drop first got started and it was pretty nice. You got a good discount, just had to wait a little, and their service was good. You could actually return products.

But now it’s a total sham. Very few items are actually a good deal, you might get a 10% off sale to wait 2 months for the item to arrive, most of the stuff is just straight from China with pretty much no difference in price. Granted, they’ve done some interesting things with their self-branded/collab stuff, but arguably a lot of that stuff has been a total flop that’s been heavily marketed.

I get people trying to figure out if this will benefit the consumer, but the fact is: Drop is a retailer wanting to focus on their profit margin. Watches and EDC stuff has fallen out of favor, and there wasn’t much profit margin in those fields already. Drop is just cutting their catalog to focus on products people are buying more often, the same products that have higher profit margins.

You gotta remember, companies aren’t your friends.

You make a valid point, this is obviously a move that benefits them, no argument there. Drop wants to make money above all else, it wasn’t as if I was trying to say that drop was doing this for the community. Your correct companies are not your friend, but you can still benefit from the actions of people that are not your friends, and that’s what I hope will happen. It wouldn’t surprise me if customer service still remained a mess, and we saw zero extra discounts as a result of this. If anything hopefully they will spend more time on collabs/their own products and we will see some benefits there, but who knows.

Living in a non US country means that the discounts that Drop provides to me are meaningless due to shipping, taxes, etc.

The reason I bought from them is due to the modded versions of headphones or their own brand components such as the 789. If they move more into audio and become more of a modding house then I would be happy with that.

Not every modification they make will be good but I like that they try and rectify an issue with the OEM components.

I hope they do.

Im less curious about the IEM and more about pricing to see fi tin abandons fully the tin t series identity of being cheap or compete with their own IEM the p series

well…wouldn’t / couldn’t it be that they have several lines / series at similar price points that differentiate themselves with their sound signatures? that would be my first thought…but they could have just gotten caught up in making / releasing products before they saw possible duplication or eating into other products.

This is the coolest dap I’ve seen if budget is no issue

It even has the dual volume sliders.

I love the buttons on there, I bet it would be really nice to use in a pocket

This feels like what Sony should’ve done for their special edition Walkman DAP.

I’m just bummed it’s using that stupid sudo custom type shell that doesn’t fit my ears AT ALL. My hear holes are too deviant for those to fit. I wish they stuck with the same kind of design as the rest of the T series.

As for the pricing, I think people misunderstand how Tin hifi seem to be doing things. The T series is not inherently the “budget” line. It seems to be their general purpose line with single dynamics, duel dynamics, hybrids, etc. The price is determined by how high up the line it is (T1 is cheapest and T4 is current most expensive). The same thing seems to be how the P series works. The P2 didn’t necessarily replace the P1, it’s just the next step up in price and performance. So I would assume the T5 will be more expensive than the T4.
