Did you guys have to change the power cable from the amp? I heard it was lame
I haven’t changed anything… what would make a power cable lame???
I think he was just noting it’s sensitivity to dirty power. That is the case for most higher end equipment unfortunately. But as long as you have decent power you shouldn’t have any issues
Why is that?
Couldn’t tell ya lol. It shouldn’t be that way but it is. I would go ask a designer lol
Options:
- Fired the electrical engineers, kept only the audio engineers.
- Wanted a longer weekend, shipped it on a thursday.
I buy that explanation
I don’t know about the 2nd one but the first one may be accurate lol
I thought the power cable was specifically selected by Rupert Neve Designs for the RNHP due to others causing audible mains noise?
They chose the power based off of sound quality, not mains noise. I have tried other power supplies and they changed it, but I preferred the stock
Ok, I thought it was for a specific reason though.
There are low output ripple switchmode PSUs, the one of the RNHP is not one of them.
IIRC someone on here solved their problem by adding some more filtering in line:
If you are more DIY-minded:
The contents are very similar to this ($3 on ebay):
Or this one ($14, which is kinda overpriced):
They just chose a power supply that worked well with their design the best is my guess
From the link provided below (thank you google, lol)
"…Neve didn’t see what the problem was, though, “The power supply was selected by means of extensive performance testing and its performance contributes to the low noise floor of the RNHP. Switch mode power supplies operate with universal input voltage and frequency which allows worldwide compatibility and offers far higher efficiency in operation compared to linear power supplies. Linear power supplies must be optimised for a particular AC mains voltage and frequency and have compromised performance when operating under varying mains supplies.”
Well, I just picked one of these up … kinda. Mine is on the way to Amir to measure & review.
Curious how that will turn out lol
He’ll do his measurements and It’ll probably measure pretty well.
Then comments will say, it’s pointless and overpriced… it’s not even as good as Atom and cheaper amps that have lower SINAD, don’t bother, it’s a waste.
But maybe I’ll be wrong… we’ll see. Lol
Easy prediction…
If it measures poorly, the shit talking will commence and the group-think mob mentality ASR forum will collectively engage in finding reasons why the insert Topping model number here is way better.
But if it measures well…
I say this as a member of the ASR forum, but I refuse to participate in their discussion board. Too focused on measurements being the supreme litmus test.
So, for someone like me that really listens at relatively low volume levels, is this thing tailor made for me?
I mean, it is pretty good at lower volumes lol
