My view is a little skewed when it treble cans, I have some Grado and they are most deff treble cans. Some will say way too much, I find that when paired with amps that have a slightly more mid focused sound or really clean overall sound like the RNHP that the Grado like the SR80e sound great. The treble in them definitely adds something (fun) to music.
Using them on an amp like the 789 or 888 where THX adds this little sparkle to everything they can become too much unless you eq them.
So what I’m saying to my ears the Dt880 isn’t a bass cannon or treble monster but more of a decently balanced headphone.
If you have the RNHP and are willing to spend around $100 and you like treble, pick up a pair of the Grado SR80e. Then give them a little burn-in time and see what you think.
Now that you mention this I don’t even know if I have listened to my SR60i since I got the RNHP. I’m going to have to break them out and see what I think about this pairing.
It looks like you’re using the Beyer T1.2… how would you describe the bass notes you hear? How far up do you have to turn the pot (volume) on the RNHP?
Yes, I never feel like I’m in a concert hall with it. Feels like I’m in a jazz club. You’ll get used to it.
The stage width can really be assisted with the right dac like a bifrost 2 imo, but it’s still not a super large stage, more prioritizes depth than width, but higher end dacs really help it out overall
Yes Beyerdynamic t1.2nd.
The bass is kind of tight. More detail and quality than the A3. But, It doesn’t sound as fuller as the A3. The bass on the A3 sound big. I haven’t played that much with the RNHP. But, it sound more neutral/balanced.
A3 warm - RNHP neutral - thx789 bright
Running the RNHP balanced. The range goes from from 11 - 3 max.
The odd thing about the RNHP is that its louder with the RCA input than the XLR go figure.
I thought the T1.2 would force me to go past the 12 mark but as you can see it doesn’t even get close.
Is that why you chose to use rca over xlr? I know you can do either with the bf2.
I know when I got the amp, I bought both xlr and rca to test which one sounded better coming out of my audio interface. Rca I feel had not only a little more volume, but it had more bite as well (in a good way). Then again, I might just be imagining all that.
I chose the RCA because it sounded louder than the XLR.
I was testing them back and forth before I got the T1.2, I was afraid the RNHP wouldnt have enough power for a 600 ohm headphone. To my surprise i didn’t need to crank it up all that much as you can see from my picture. And I never got around to using the XLR connections again.
I got lazy
