My magni heresy is now a dead box. The left channel is gone afaik. Seems like static murdered it cause it aināt properly grounded. Not entirely sure if that would have done it (not an electronics expert). Thoughts? Is the Asgard 3 properly grounded?
Have you contacted Schiit? Your Heresy is probably still under warranty. Even $100 amps shouldnāt die this young.
Mine does have a static noise in the right channel whenever I change the volume. Other than that it still works like normal. However, my Asgard doesnāt have this issue so I donāt know if thereās anything wrong with my magni heresy.
I actually had this issue with the atom as well but in the right channel
So the volume issue is more the cheaper pot used in the magni which is known. Not sure what went wrong with his amp though
I have a Magni 3, B-stock for $79.
The amp worked great for a few months, then I heard a scratchy potā¦I had a few conversations with Schiit and several things you can do.
- When they get these back they spray the pots with WD40 or a contact cleaner. They carefully pour or spray into the small potā¦and rotate the know several timesā¦this seems to work wellā¦
I have the name of the cleaner they use but cant find it at the momentā¦if I do I will post.
- If under warranty you can email them for serviceā¦which I did and it was replacedā¦several months and working goodā¦still!
Alex
Yea, I sent in a service request. Anyoneās guess as to the issue right now. The Hel I have also has the same scratchy pot syndrome, but I donāt mind that (since I leave it on the same volume most of the time anyways).
Exact same issue with the Hel
Seems unlikely youād get 2 bad pots, but I guess itās possible.
Schiit actually does use a decent pot in at least the Magniās itās a 12mm pot made by ALPās. There really arenāt great potās in that size, and you might just be very unlucky I guess.
Do you have a phone you can use to drive the amp from?
And plug it into a different mains circuit, while youāre trying that?
Yea. Did both. Same schiit. Both pots are scratchy when adjusting volume.
Guess Iām just getting real unlucky.
Well that sucksā¦ I have the magni 3+, Jotunheim, Loki, Asgard 3ā¦ Makes me sweat a bitā¦Will see in time. Good luck with a speedy repair and or exchange.
Wow, you are really all in with Schiit.
Deep schiit !! I fell in the hole!
My Heresy has a slightly scratchy pot and so does my Fulla 3. Itās infrequent but I notice it. Iām not terribly concerned personally.
Happy to see more folks liking the A3, a little apprehensive from the price at first but I honestly feel I donāt need anything else that has more power to it-
Has anyone tried adding the Phono stage card to the A3? Any good? Iād be switching from a ART Phono Plus USB.
Anyone have an idea on what an upgrade from a Asgard 3 would be? Iām thinking of something that would have the same or better single ended power output and a similar kind of sound.
Also with the power output the Asgard has, should I even care about having a balanced outputs?
IMO no, a good balanced and single ended will sound similar, just use what your amp and dac has
If you did want something balanced I think like a monolith liquid platinum would be a good pick, slightly warmer toned but still pretty natural (but single ended performance sucks).
Perhaps a burson conductor 3p might be up your alley, that would be pretty sweet imo
RNHP would be for sound but I think the Asgard 3 still beats it on power. Listen to M0N if the sound difference is a justifiable upgrade but I get a sense that the Asgard 3 is a ābudget but very capable RNHPā.
Iām tempted to give up on balanced altogether. It would save me a lot on cables and I wouldnāt need to deal with adapters as much. It looks like the Conductor 3P is $1100 (and is a fully featured dac/amp combo).
I should have mentioned that I donāt own and havenāt heard the Asgard 3. I was wondering if I could spend around $800 or less and get something Iām less likely to want to upgrade a year from now. Although $200 is so cheapā¦
I will probably just end up getting the Asgard 3.
I think the asgard 3 is really worth a try, you might be surprised by it imo
Also the conductor series are way more amp than dac focused, I would suggest later on upgrading to a higher end dac
