šŸ”· Schiit Asgard 3

The reason everything went DS DAC is all about cost.
The chips were cheap and measured well, and are easy to integrate.
It was difficult to make R2R DAC chips with greater than about 18 bit resolution.
If you can get/make accurate enough resistors though they are a superior solution.
Case in point the big recent improvements in DS DAC’s has been a move back to using a resistor ladder for the top N bits (usually 5 or 6), and only using Delta Signa for the rest.

pretty hard to tell the Multibit dac and the dac the xd05+ apart… this is a good thing btw… I still think the zen dac is the one ive liked the most (and bought again) but these are really nice to my ears… didn’t like the d50s… also I can’t comment on the different technologies or id give an opinion but im sure you’re right… all of you lol

also these are pretty fresh first impressions

Been away for a few days and reading all the comments …

FIrst of all r2r is old as far as when it was first implemented, and this has no bearing on its capabilites if implemented well…

R2R dacs have stellar resolution compared to many ho-mum DS dacs…that said there are good DS dacs as well…its not the age its the implementation etc that counts…

and R2R dacs do not add distortion of make things sound soft etc…

DS dacs are easier to make than R2R dacs…

The Schiit Bifrost 2 can resolve very, very well and doesnt muck with the samples…like most DS dacs.

From Schiit:

No, seriously, I don’t believe this True Multibit stuff. 18 bits? What about 24 bit music?

Well, leaving aside the fact that there probably ain’t nowhere near 24 usable bits in any recorded music, no matter the audiophile cred, if you’re looking for resolution below the 18-bit level, take a look at our measurements, showing Bifrost 2 clearly resolving a -144dB signal. That’s -24 bits. Boom.

Microchip THX AAA stuff, I had one and its sold…best specs in the world, sound? Sterile less compelling to me to listen with…

New tech is not necessairly better, but could be or add new non-existent function that you might like, want or need…

But dont shy away from old tech it can really surprise you if your open minded…

I pretty much echo the sentiments of this entire post and I had a similar experience with the SMSL SP200 THX 888. I’ve been much happier with my Bifrost 2 and RNHP stack. The Geshelli Labs Archel 2.5 also blows the doors off of any THX amp IMO. Geshelli really makes nice stuff. The Enog2 pro and Archel 2.5 is the ideal stack at it’s price point IMO.

The Asgard 3 is what I would sell my Schiit Heresy for. Even then… I still miss that schiit amp. Plus it’s hard to justify an Asgard 3 when I have a RNHP.

I’m pretty sure I have an amp problem…

I find the fact you used your phone camera instead of making a screen shot a little disturbing.
