Idk how I feel about the multi bit tbh it sounds really warm and full but there’s something I don’t like about it and it’s not amp.

Or maybe I just don’t like how my lcd 2s with it because the dac sounds good with x2s and cal

Just wanted to say… Hooked up my he4xx to my new Asgard 3 and to me it is Unfrickin believably awesome sounding… Wow, just Wow! I liked these cans but Hello they just woke up!

In my experience the new multibit (and specifically the one built into the DAC such as the BF2) is significantly better. The downside is that you pretty much have to leave it on 24/7.

??? Not sure what you mean there… This one has the multibit as my Jotunheim has the 4490 card I decided to go a different route. Oh, Bifrost 2!! It took me a minute…

I prefer accuracy and detail. so im not a big fan of r2r. i prefer delta sigma DACS

I prefer natural and real, so I’m not a big fan of DS. Each to their own.

On the higher end side of things r2r tends to take the cake for actual accurate reproduction of sound imo

And I’m realizing I dont know anything about dacs… heh

but doesnt it act like a tube? adding a distortion to the sound?

Distortion isn’t necessarily bad per se, even order harmonic distortion isn’t bad if it’s used properly. Look at your rnhp for example, it has more measurable distortion than thx, yet it still sounds good? Also tubes are commonly used in extremely high end electronics as well (at this point half of my headphone amps are tube, my living room setup is tube, and like half of my studio gear is tube based)

OMG! i didnt know that! Gonna have to sell the RNHP now and go back to the 789 =P

Just an FYI…all of those early receivers and sound systems from back in the day that most people remember fondly…most of them used R2R. The only reason DS is more popular at the moment is because it’s cheaper and it measures well to please the measurebaters.

Don’t get me wrong, there is bad r2r as well lol. Just because something has r2r doesn’t mean its good

Thats another thing that bugs me about it. its old tech. technology gets better as it marches on. I want the latest and greatest. or at least best price to performance lol. Most of the music i listen to is electronic. and a lot of production. not a big fan of ā€œNaturalā€, if im understanding it clearly

I mean what do you want? a bunch of resisters? or a microchip?

There are modern designs of r2r implementations, many use very advanced FPGA chips to correct any potential errors in the resistor ladder, resulting in a very well measuring r2r dac at times (so a new spin on some older designs if you are interested in that)

Old tech doesn’t mean bad tech…you are making an assumption…you know what they say about assumptions…

I’m not saying its bad. just not as good as new tech

The age of tech has nothing to do with if it is better or not. Most of the time new tech is cheaper to manufacture. Has nothing to do with quality.
