You can do some mods that increase soundstage, change presentation, and also change the sound in general. Make sure to look for a he5. The LE is good but a bit less impressive and the SE is a dice roll, also preferably not a reissue. Also make sure there hasnāt been any fazor mods or something that affects the driver for safetyās sake.
Regarding the he5se, if you are willing to roll the dice, I still stand behind what I have said about it in the past if you get a good non bait and switch one lol
I noticed one listing which noted it was a 2017 reissue. Looks like they changed the cups and yokes out. Is that anything noteworthy?
Also, regarding the 5SE, there doesnāt seem to be any giveaway regarding the silent revision, and the supposed previous version. Cosmetically, both the working, and the busted version in Zeosā video looked about the same.
Iām willing to chalk the 5SEās issue in that case as being an error, but itāll be awhile before Iāll know for sure myself.
One thing to note regarding my 4XX, is it normal for me to have it on high gain at 9-10 oāclock for it to get satisfyingly loud enough? I heard the output voltage for the Apple dongle is fairly low in comparison to normal desktop DACs, so idk if thatās anything to be concerned about-
Alright cool, just making sure about that lol. Iām gonna consider a used HE5, 560v1, or the Sundara as alternatives if my 5SE ends up being part of the statistic lmao. So far Iām liking what I hear on this thing. Jedi Fallen Orderās soundtrack on the A3 and 4XX is flat out amazing to listen to, itās like Iām in a theater tbh-
There are 2 dac modules, with the cheaper 100 one being a sigma delta ak4490 dac, and the multibit option being schiits multibit dac, found in the modi multibit. The multibit is a higher quality dac option imo
I would say so if you are looking for an all in one
Yes, but I think it depends. The multibit isnāt as detailed as some other dacs at around 200-250, but it is warmer and more relaxed with less harshness, so it depends on what you prefer
Mine has the multibit dac and when listening to my nighthawk carbons it sounds so silky smooth. I donāt see myself upgrading my gear anytime soon. Ive been thinking about getting the m570 to see how it sounds on the a3. I know the a3 drives planars very well.
I recently got my Asgard 3 in preparation for Argons. I upgraded from the Magni 3. It definitely sounds warmer to my ears than the Magni although I could be imagining things ā either way, I like it.
One thing Iāve noticed is that I have to have the volume up much higher on the Asgard compared to the Magni (low gain on both). Is this just the additional range the larger knob provides?
installed the Multibit dac in my a3 today⦠impressions will take awhile to come to fruition but besides having no instructions and no cable everything was pretty straight forwardā¦2 screws inside the unit and 1 on the back and youāre done
thanks and Iāll be back with some thoughts eventually basically just tested to see if it was working⦠itās nice to know it has a dedicated dac so my cable swapping needs have been minimized lol
Donāt know. Never tried the ds dac card. But the Multibit is a bit less sharp in the treble compared to the modi 3. Itās output is a bit quieter compared to the modi too.
