Yeah I also have no where to test stuff, so I look thoroughly for reviews and forumsā¦ I feel you on that
Immediate A/B tests are usually not the best to test audio in my opinion. It takes some time to acclimate to it. I think too quick of a change will always have some bias in it.
What I like to do personally is what Steve Guttenberg recommends ā put the new product and live with it as the new norm for 2-3 days. Then, revert back to the original. If you feel something is missing or less satisfied, then the change was a positive one.
Itās not the best return policy, but Schiit does a 15-day return, but you wonāt get all of your money back. I want to say youāll have to pay for shipping + restocking.
Quick swapping A/B is good after someone spend some days with A and some days with B. Then, after noticing something is different, A/B can help to pin point the difference. But, i always recommend to use the gear exclusively a few days.
Iām thinking of upgrading from my Schiit Magni 2 to something bigger. Problem is, in germany many things are hard to get. I see the Asgard recommend all over the place.
Is it still worth it for 260ā¬+ shipping? Or would something else be better than in the range to 300ā¬.
I mean, the schiit Europe store says, maybe they get restocked in 2-4 weeks .
What headphones do you have?
Sennheiser HD6XX
Audeze LCD2-C
Audioquest Nighthawks
Koss KPH30i
These are the main headphones, but the future will for sure bring more to the table.
Seems like you like warmthā¦ I think the Asgard 3 would be a really nice addition to your setup.
Yeah I definetly like warmth. I could get an smsl sp200 for the same price, but I donāt think it would bring that to the table.
Thanks mate!
Anyone bought A3 from Schiitās site recently? I ordered last week and experiencing a āshort delayāā¦
Schiit seems to be running behind lately. Something about supply chains I think. I ordered at A3 two weeks ago and i got in like 4 days
I bought mine right at end of April/early May and had no issues. This must be a recent development
Just received mine today.
I gotta say I didnāt expect to hear a difference. This might be because my amps have been JDS Atom > SP200 > Heresy. I had been reading the forums here and found a few folks suggesting this one as a solid amp over the previous ones that I mentioned. My first headphone I tried this with was the HD800s. It sounded good, pretty close to what I was hearing with the Heresy amp. Then I tried the DT 800 edition and it felt like there was a small difference listening to this and the HD800s, when comparing the two. Then I was like alright what else I gotā¦ I reached for the EMU Teaks and then it was like, woahā¦ hello soundstage! I then went back to the forums and reread some post speaking about the awesome 3d presentation that this amp provides. I definitely noticed this with the EMU Teaks. I then tried the Focal Elexā¦ andā¦ did not like it. It seem like the low-end was a mess or something. I think the Elex is maybe better on the THX amp IMO. Anyway I will say if you are looking for something different than a THX amp, give this a try.
Also to note, I just bought this on Thursday of this past week. So they still might ship out sooner than what it says.
Edit: (07-01-2020) I wanted to add this in case anyone else finds this helpful. When I switched from using the Multibit Dac that I have included inside the Asgard to the Modi 3 the Focal Elex sounded a bit better to me. With the Modi 3, the low end is a bit more impactful instead of being a bit more relaxed using the multibit.
How would an A3 w/ Dac compare to a JDS element ii Dac/AMP?
Asgard 3 amp has a lot more power than the Element II but the Element amp is quite a bit cleaner. The dac in the Element seems to be a lot cleaner also. I wouldnāt get either dac chip that schiit offers to put in the A3. Modi 3 would be better than the other dac chips for the price.
Modiusā¦$199
I havenāt heard the modi 3 but I disagree about the internal multibit chipā¦ definitely worth the $200 imo
The modi 3 does have a bit of glare which is very noticeable after listening to the internal multibit dac for a while. So i think the multibit card completes the asgard 3.
The Topping e30 is also a nice choice for $130 and is a good upgrade over the Modi 3.
