šŸ”· Schiit Asgard 3

Wow interesting. Seems it beat out the Gilmore. i woulda thought the Gilmore was the better amp. since it twice the price. Know im dieing to hear a comparison with the RNHP.

BTW what does Glare mean?

Bright and harsh treble that masks detail. However, There is no official definition of what glare in audio devices is. Someone elseā€™s definition of glare could mean something different than mine.

The modi 3 also sounds a bit compressed compared to the multibit dac card.

Iā€™m glad youā€™ve been shedding light on thisā€¦ I think maybe people assume theyā€™re the same and say get the modi because itā€™s more versatile or something but truth is theyā€™re a different animal

Almost looks like they painted the oem knob

Dude said it was Asia sourced for 10 bucks and is a little deeperā€¦thinking of making a Schiit Oreo. Black Bifrost silver button on bottom, silver Jot in middle with black knob, and black Asgard 3 silver knob on top.

oh nice lol thatā€™s a great ideaā€¦ not sure how different, if at all, the a2 and a3 knobs areā€¦ I noticed a set screw in the back that isnā€™t there on the a3

Oreo or Schiit sandwich?

Looking at that and looking back at mine. Low key the knob color looks ugly :joy:

LOW-KEY!?!? The bright silver knob is almost the only reason I didnā€™t get the black Asgard. Its HIDEOUS! They should have matched it with the gray on the sides. That would look much better imo.

I ended up getting a black one cuz I had a black Modi 2 Uber. Ended up upgrading to a Topping E30 so it didnt even matter.

Not doing black on black per se, putting black knob on Silver Jot stacked betwix a black Bifrost and black Asgard. Thought the knob would bring the Schiit (Oreo, sandwichā€¦insert funny thing here) together.

Anyone here own/heard both the Asgard 3 and the Lyr3? I am looking for a companion amp for my Lyr3 (which I really like). I have some headphones that sound excellent on the Lyr, but a few that donā€™t. Iā€™ve never owned an Asgard (or anything that is Class A or with class A bias), but I know some people describe the sound as slightly warm compared to the other Schiit stuff. I also have an Atom Stack and it sounds good timbre wise so I am considering going with an EL Stack as a complement to the Lyr3. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Whatā€™s the lyr doing to your headphones that you donā€™t like?

A good reason to keep the silver knob :sunglasses:

Current setupā€¦

SMSL SU8 -> JDS Labs Atom (pre-amp to powered monitors, occasional SE head amp) / Liquid Platinum.

Would SMSL SU8 to the Modius and JDS Labs Atom to the Asgard 3 be an upgrade? Would it be an upgrade worth $400? Aesthetically, its an upgrade to meā€¦but is performance? Keep in mind, I use the Liquid Platinum for most of my listening.

Headphones in the rotation --> Beyer T1; Focal Elegia.

Dac wise the modius would be a side grade pretty much, different signature (smoother, more relaxed, a bit meatier in comparison to the brighter su8) but similar tier of dac. Amp wise the Asgard 3 would be an upgrade but again would also have a different signature.

I think it might be worth if you care about aesthetics for both, but the amp would be more of an upgrade in this case. I think the Asgard 3 would def benefit the cans you have (more the t1 as the elegia isnā€™t picky), and the modius with the Asgard is a pretty great sounding stack imo

I would also look into the el dac ii and El amp ii stack of you wanted something more clean and neutral than the Asgard + modius but on a similar tier (since the schiit stack leans more slightly warm, smooth, and impactful)
