šŸ”· Schiit Asgard 3

I am now an Asgard 3 and Modius guy.

Burned my cards and need to quit this site.

Seriously thoughā€¦going with Liquid Platinum, Asgard 3, and Modius Stack on the desk and I think Iā€™m good for a long while.

Solid set up man. Enjoy it.

Yeahā€¦ Sweet setup for sure, I have the same except swap the Modius for the BF2ā€¦ Love this setup!!

What amp would be an upgrade to this?

U mean an upgrade to the Asgard 3 or Liquid P ?

Asgard 3

IMO, something like a Violectric V100/V200, Lake People G109/G111/RS-08, or Gilmore Lite MkII. The Vio and Lake People stuff being perhaps a little warmer leaning than the Gilmore. For reference, I have the V200 and have not heard the Asgard, so no direct experience, but for single ended performance at the next tier, thatā€™s my bet.

Depending on what your thinking ā€œupgradeā€ meansā€¦it could be a bunch of stuff both Schitt and non-Schitt stuff.

Is it more power, different sound profile, balanced capability, tubes etcā€¦

Tell us more of what your thinkingā€¦

Iā€™ve had the Asgard 3 for a few weeks now and I really love this amp. Before this my setup was the Liquid Spark for headphones and the Fiio Q1 MK II for less demanding headphones and IEMs and now the Asgard has completely replaced them. It is great with IEMs and with how powerful this amp is it does not become anywhere close to as hot as the Liquid Spark does which is like a mini heater. I would really recommend this amp to anyone whoā€™s interested in it. Itā€™s powers Argons really well and with the DT 880 600ohm arriving today Iā€™ll get to hear how well it powers them as well.

Hey guys.
This is my first post ( and one of frustration) after lurking many months. I am trying to purchase this product atm but wondering if itā€™s really worth all the hassle because apparently my attempt is flagged as suspicious according to schiit -.-
While I understand their need to protect their interest I wish theyā€™d just keep stock on amazon and make life simple for us non american folks. Itā€™s a $200 sale for them and a 400 ish dollar loss for me itā€™s kinda rubbing me the wrong way lol.
Just needed to vent thanks

Hmm mine gets warm, comparable to the LS or even more so ā€¦ out of curiosity is yours silver? Mine is black so maybe thatā€™s a factor

But yes, itā€™s a fantastic versatile amp and I think youā€™ll be happy with how your inbound 880ā€™s sound on it :+1: look forward to your hearing what you think

I also have a black one. The only time it gets pretty hot is when I use it on high gain with my Argons for an extended period of time but even then it doesnā€™t get as hot as my Liquid Spark. With my HD660s or 598s on low gain it only get a little warm for the listening session.

Hi! Welcome to HFGF! Also, ugh. Schiit definitely does need to figure out their international distro. And your attempted purchase being flagged as suspicious does seem peculiar. Best of luck!

Iā€™ve heard that there are probably better bang for the buck products if you are purchasing from EU. I really do love this AMP, but for $400 I think you could probably get something just as competitive elsewhere. I wish you the best of luck though.

This makes me curious. From my understanding a class A generates heat because it is constantly ā€œtryingā€ to amplify, but it canā€™t because thereā€™s not always signal to send, so that waste becomes heat. But in that case, wouldnā€™t an amp in use create less heat?

Maybe this has to do with how the bias works in this amp?

No, itā€™s just always ā€œamplifyingā€ if thatā€™s a thing.
Basically 0 in is in the middle of the amplification range, so the amplifying component whether it be transistor or valve, is always on.

It all depends on biasing. With a class A itā€™s always on, even when it is off. In a class A/B the class A part doesnā€™t have to have as much gain meaning it wonā€™t consume as much energy turning into heat.

Iā€™ve posted this a few times in a few threads: If you have a little patience and donā€™t mind buying used thereā€™s European based headfiers that eventually will sell their US made stuff. I got my Monoprice Liquid Platinum and RNHP that way.

Warning:

Apparently, if you buy it with the AKM DAC, you get a lot less power than 3.4 watts when you use it?! Some people with hard to drive headphones might be wondering what the hell is wrong with their unit right nowā€¦

It seems that the internal DAC is the older Schiit designs that only output 1.4 volts and hence canā€™t drive the amplifier section to max power (nominal DAC output is 2 volts for RCA/unbalanced).

Iā€™m not surprised, they really need to drop the akm chip, itā€™s just not good tbh. The multibit sounds good, but it also doesnā€™t have as much gain as an external dac as well (although better than the akm)
