I would concur with @Hazi59 I currently have the Asgard 3 in house and really enjoy it, especially with some headphones that are a bit more neutral sounding. The fact it runs class A for the first 500mw is a big plus in my book especially paired with some of the focal headphones.
Iāve got two more things about which I am wondering reguiarding the A3.
So everyone describes the A3 as kinda warm with great timbre and I have no doubts about that. But how is it in terms of detail and speed? Are those sacrificed?
Also the A3 is considert a rather large staging ālaying backā amp. Does this consequently mean that headphones become less engaging or make eg. the HD 600 loose some intimicy?
I donāt have THX amp to compare to, but using my Aeon RT C with my A3 I can say I hear crazy details in music that Iāve never heard before.
As far as wide vs intimate soundstage, it doesnāt make intimate recordings or instruments sound further away. I find if its intimate, it remains intimate, but for things recorded with a big sound stage, that sound stage really opens up. Height, depth and width.
Awesome, Just what I wanted to head. Thank you.
The A3 is more detailed than the higher priced THX or Topping amps, truthfully. The difference is itās not as forward about it. THX amps in particular are quite detail-aggressive, but they announce it. A3 is more subtly and naturally detailed. Iāve described it previously as THX amps are that mediocre coworker you have who always has to tell people how good they are at their jobs. The A3 is that coworker who is really good at their job, keeps quiet, and lets the work speak for itself.
More forwardness/volume is often perceived as more detail, I agree. The analogy is actually quite good!
So I understand that the A3 ist just as good in fast and busy electonical music as in instumental and classical recordings?
Yes. The A3 was my workhorse for about 6 months and I used it to listen to everything; rock, metal, classical, jazz, EDM, hip-hopā¦you get the picture. IMO you have to spend $400 minimum to meaningfully beat its overall performance - and thatās with Schiitās own Jotunheim 2, lol.
Gotcha, I guess Iāll just pull the trigger on the A3 and have one importet to Germany. Your review is what got me hooked on the A3 in the first palce. Thanks!
Hope it reaches you soon! Do share pics and your listening impressions when you get it. =D
After getting a Violectric v200 and using it as my daily for about a week now, I have a whole newfound respect for my Asgard 3. It really is a steal for its price, because it seems quite close in quality to this, but at 1/4 the price (if we are speaking brand new). Also, still keeping my Asgard 3 because you can use it as a pre-amp too!
It is a bit on the warmer side for sure, but the timbre is fantastic and I think you get extremely good detail for the price. Speed might be a tiny bit lacking, but honestly, it is barely noticeable after getting a better AMP. In regards to the HD600 losing intimacy, I feel like I gained more intimacy going from a more neutral AMP to something like an Asgard 3 because it sounds more natural (thus more intimate sounding, imo).
Itās an amazing product, and a fantastic entry into dipping your feet into what really good audio gear can do.
Yeah Iām really glad I bought the Asgard (thank you M0N). After doing a lot of homework, everyone seems to say it punches above its class and I donāt think Iāve read anyone say anything bad about it whatsoever. There is one problem with it thoughā¦ Itās lifted the curtains and revealed that about 10% of the music I own was recorded badly! lol
I f***ing love this amp.
@blu @Frazzled ā¦Ditto here! Iām VERY fussy about timbre (played in orchestra for 20 years, as well as combo gigs.) The Asgard and Sundaras are spot on.
What cords would you recommend to connect the asgard 3 amp and modius dac to drive the dt880 600ohm headphones from a PC for gaming and rock music? Is there anything else I need other than the cords for the setup?
At this price point the biggest concern is just getting wires that are well made. The Modius should arrive with a phone-charger-like wall wart with usb jack. I recommend using a micro usb cable to power it. Then use another micro usb to connect to the computer, or use your computerās optical output and an optical cable if your computer has one. A standard stereo RCA cable goes between the Modius and Asgard.
I am confused. So my Asgard 3 arrived today in Germany - right on my doorstep. Only 5 days since I orderd it. I payed 202 ā¬ including shipping (+10 ā¬ that PayPal charged for changing currency). Thatās crazy! On Schitt-Europe itās 260ā¬.
Maybe this motivates people that are concous about ordering directly from Schiit-US.
I am just confused as I was never asked to pay for TAX, Fees or Customs. Also I canāt find an invoice in the box. Is this weird? Any experience from fellow Europeans?
I had a similar experience, I did have to pay customs in the UK though so it ended up being a little bit more expensive than SchiitEU, but only by like Ā£6 or so. But it arrived in 3 days, so Iād much rather spend a bit more and get it way faster.
Fedexās practice is to send the VAT/import charges invoice to you some time later, separately. However, if you are very fortunate (like I was), you might not receive it at all. And thatās how I got an Asgard 3 for Ā£204.24 (vs Ā£250 from Schiit UK directly) =)
Donāt forget that if something goes wrong with your gear, you need to send it back to USA at your own cost if you order direct from Schiit USA. On the other hand, you get 5 years warranty for the more expensive gear like A3 if you order from Schiit US, and the warranty is only 3 years for A3 in the UK.
Edit: I just noticed your username and realised I may told you some of these things before. Sorry if Iām repeating myself.
Ah alright. Iāll see about that then
Nah thanks for beeing helpful!
just monoprice or amazon basics, it doesnāt matter for shit
or you can buy the schiit cables (overpriced)
Thanks for the cable recommendations.
