Schiit Bifrost 2

In balanced signals, positive and negative are 180° out of phase (= inverted).
When you now reference both to ground instead of having them “float” (= not referenced to Ground) and load only the positive (or negative) part, as a lazily implemented single ended output would do, you create an asymmetry on the balanced signal. As in: Half of the balanced signal is skewed towards ground.

The above makes a lot of assumptions about circuit layouts and components being used. To give a definitive answer, one would have to get the amplifier in question and take some measurements.

Gotcha :grinning:

Bifrost 2 is back in service! That’s the sound I’ve been missing. Switching back from the Modi 3+ you can definitely hear a more… “full” sound - I guess that’s body? - and thumpier low end with greater separation.

I’m sure there are much more expensive DACs than this but damn if this doesn’t sound great, particularly within the price point.

Seems all Bifrost 2 conversation has died. What was released that stole the show? Lol

For me personally, d1se sounds a little bit better, approximately 10% clearer sound and the second point: i live far away from manufacturer, 200$ customs and delivery costs, reading about service requests for bifrost i decided not to get it for myself, ended with d1se. For me d1se steal all show from all dacs under 1k

The D1se looks to be a very nice unit. I have been extremely satisfied with the Bifrost 2 and would buy another. Having said that, I am also intrigued by a couple of the R2R DACs out there, and I may try one at some point. But I think I will always want a Frost in the system. It’s a very strong performer and it fits my desktop environment well.

More like the limited production killed the buzz, got one recently used for a decent price and personally happy with it, will take a while to say if it’s the perfect match for me but it creams my old 200€ dac

Yea I think Schiit is really shooting itself in the foot not being able to keep up with demand. I found a barely used one that I’m receiving soon cuz I didn’t want to potentially wait several more months ordering from the website. I’m glad I ordered my Jot 2 just before it went to back order

Im using a Hel 2e as a DAC. If bifrost 2 doesn’t blow it out of the water I’ll be disappointed

I agree. For whatever reason they really got stung by not being prepared for the supply chain shortages. A lot of companies did, but it really crippled them. I tried getting a Jot 2 but gave up and ended up with an SA-1. I got my Bifrost 2 lightly used and that is probably the only reason I have it now. It’s really a shame. I hope they can get it together.

Yeah, as a non US resident who read all the reports of certain failures of their products, it made me really hesitant but I was at least open to it. The fact I was going to have to wait 2ish months was the nail in the coffin and not the deciding but final factor that made me pivot- I have seen them come up occasionally used but the seller typically wants full retail, which I won’t do for a 2nd hand product.

I managed to snag mine for $620 shipped. Saved me several weeks of wait and a good $150 for an almost brand new unit. I’ll take it. Definitely harder for you guys outside the US

Hey guys,

Just got my Bifrost 2. For whatever reason the USB doesn’t get recognized on my fold 3 but works on my laptop. I had no issue with this on the Hel 2, am I missing something?

I also can’t seem to get wavelet to work even in legacy mode. EQ does nothing it seems with other apps, I’m on Chrome OS

That is odd because according to the manual it is UAC2 compliant, so it doesn’t even need a driver. I have a LG V40 and the Frost works great with it.

Just to be sure, you did use a otg adapter ?
If not that would be my first trouble shooting step

Otg didn’t make a difference. Still nothing from my phone but it works on my laptop

Got a powered usb hub otw

Edit: Powered USB did work but it seems the sound quality was somewhat worse? Gonna stick with my laptop and get a Lokius for EQ

It’s not that they can’t keep up it’s that they can’t get certain parts to build them.

The supply chain for certain parts is completely and totally fucked at the moment and has been for a good while now.

Most companies operating cash flow would’nt really lend itself to buying magnitudes of extra stock at increasing prices if the supply chain was going to break down. Many didn’t believe it would get as bad as it has.

Bifrost now $730 in silver (prev 700)

blog post about it: Schiit Happened: The Story of the World’s Most Improbable Start-Up | Page 5871 | Headphone Reviews and Discussion - Head-Fi.org

edit: I originally said B2 was $650 but was thinking of the B1 price

Now I wish that last month I would have bought a bunch of Schitt just for Schiit and giggles :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It is fussy on its connections. When I got mine, I couldn’t use my DAP anymore (Sony NW-ZX300). It wouldn’t recognize it so I had to start using my laptop as my jukebox.

Weird that. The BF2 is about as open as you can get. @Xerosnake90 is there another usb connection you can try with the new phone? Is there anything in the phone’s spec sheet that would tell us about the interface and what it wants? Maybe it wants some kind of driver and the BF2 doesn’t have one. Smartphones are just small computers these days.
