šŸ”· Schiit Jotunheim 2

Before, I listened to Anand using two amplifiers, including the Zen Dac, and there was no problem with the sibilants. I will start by using the Zen Dac as a DAC so there is a chance the problem will not occur :grinning:
J2 is tempting, but I donā€™t need more power, the Asgard 3 is sufficient in this respect. The only thing that may be interesting for the future is a different sonic signature on the balanced output. I also have concerns whether the bass will not be too thin with such sensitive headphones.

You should be in really good shape with the A3. Itā€™s powerful and clean, leans sightly warm. I couldnā€™t imagine it having poor synergy with the Ananda.

My 2cents, get the A3, and go for a completely different amp in the future when you want different sound and more power. The A3 really is special at itā€™s price point.

Maybe @MazeFrame can help me understand something here since Iā€™m not very knowledgeable about electronics/circuitry:

I have my Bifrost 2 and Jotunheim 2 connected via XLR/balanced cables; single-ended isnā€™t attached at all. But Iā€™m able to select the XLR option on my Jotunheim and listen that way as well as via SE/1ā€™4" jack. How is that possible? Is the SE option on the amp somehow also connected to the balanced circuit?

To answer that, I would need a photo of the underside of the circuit board.

Ah, okay. I just didnā€™t know if that was something common in amplifiers or not, haha.

There are hundred of ways to ā€œwoopsieā€ with circuits.

The arguable number 1 way to have something where nothing should be is ā€œcapacitive couplingā€. For that you just need two conductors in close proximity.

In a water analogy: Imagine having two pools divided by a rubber sheet. Making waves in one pool creates waves in the other pool.

I just tried waht you described: BF2 ā†’ Jot2 via XLR. And I only hear music when selecting the XLR input. When I select RCA or DAC Card input I hear nothing. Do you have anything connected via RCA?

Ah, let me clarify, since Iā€™m re-reading what I wrote and I definitely misspoke:

The BF2 and Jot2 are only connected via XLR, but I can hear from the 1/4"/SE jack when I select the balanced input.

Yes you would. The input is XLR. The output can be SE or balanced. It is not a straight line. You can put SE in and choose balanced out.

Got it. I just always associated SE with ā€œunbalancedā€ and didnā€™t think it worked on the balanced/XLR circuit.

As far as I know, input and output are unrelated.

haha, yes, this is correct! Any input can signal any output.

I have input XLR BF2 ā†’ Jot2; output RCA ā†’ Power Monitor playing right now.

(Nice looking silver stack, btw)

lol thank you! Iā€™m most proud of my dry-erase marker ā€œdotā€ on the Jot pot - took me forever to get that right so I could see it

What a knob head XD
No but seriously it looks nice the quantity of the knob was the main reason I did go with a silver Asgard ^^

Was it pretty difficult to change out the knob on the Jot2?
