If you like the 789, the a90 is a pretty big step up in terms of clarity and noise floor and if you don’t need that much power and want slightly better noise floor the new a30 pro is supposed to be just that. I also didn’t really like the jot 2, just wasn’t right for my tastes.
my heresy was better than the 789 to me. and also better than the l30 topping amp. which makes me not want to keep going higher into the chi fi amp scene. they just sound dull to me. clinical all the cliche things but its true to me. yes they have good power and low distortion. but they really lack spacial detail. it doesnt feel like a live concert it feels like a lab trying to recreate perfect tones. which just doesnt suit me. im sure they are clean . class A and tubes is my style and i can never go back.
The power output is necessary for some headphones though. I recently acquired a HE6SE and the thing just barely gets enough power from a fully turned up, max gain, 789. The headphone is 50 Ohms and yet needs almost 2 Watts to really get enough power for normal listening volume to be reached (for classical anyway, as classical is perhaps the quietest mixed recordings of any genre).
Schiit Heresy was great, to my memory, but I imagine it would currently struggle to power the 50 ohm HE6SE. Heresy power specs btw:

Though 50 ohm is unlisted on the 789 specs page, it’s much more powerful than heresy. It’s kind of unfortunate I suppose - if the heresy has better quality for one way or another than the 789, it would be a dead end for power hungry headphones.
I even wonder if I should’ve kept the Jotunheim instead of 789, to better feed the HE6SE. But fortunately the 789 serves the HE6SE well, even if it just barely makes enough power to sound good at max volume.
yeah its definitely not enough power for my he6se. but i have a jot 2 on the way so i think it will be enough considering i already love them with the heresy. the jot 2 seems to have the signature that i like

no not at all. im saying it sounds great even underpowered. i have an ananda that i dont even use even with the heresy. schiit amps seem to sound better to me than topping and THX. cant wait to see if the JOT 2 works well with the he6se

Hi. I am considering the Bifrost / Jot2 stack as well. I have the Jot2 already but was getting concerned that combining it with the Bifrost would lean towards a gooey presentation. I’ll be pairing it with Focal Clears. I do love discovering things I never heard before in familiar recordings so resolution is a consideration. As of now the DAC fronting the Jot2 is my FiiO M11 Pro which also has a warmer presentation. Would the Jot2-Bifrost2 combo be less detailed or resolving than say an ESS based DAC like the Gustard X16 or SMSL 9. Anyone paired the Jot2 with either? Thoughts? I will post this on the DAC thread as well.
did yours ever ship? its been 11 days for me and still nothing.
Don’t have any focal headphones, but I can definitely compare my Topping E30 DAC to my Bifrost 2 both plugged into the Jot2 (Bifrost2 balanced, E30 single ended). I’ll try using my ZMF Auteurs to do this test as well (and a couple other phones for comparison sake). I’ll post my thoughts here once I get both the Jot2 and Auteurs in.

Not yet. I did get an email from them on 3/10 stating :
"I just wanted to give you an update today regarding your Clear order.
Focal had expected to be able to get some more Clears earlier but ran into production delays on their end.
They were able to procure additional units that are on their way to us from Australia and we expect around 2 weeks for the Clears to arrive in our warehouse."
Note… I received another email stating that headphones.com was getting a final run of what now is the officially discontinued original Clear.

I’m sure we’ve all been there but Fedex tracking said my package (Jot2 + BiFrost2) would be delivered Monday, 3/22 by the end of the day. Waited all day and by 8pm it updated again only to say “Pending…”

Hang in there, it’s worth it. My Bifrost took 2 weeks to show up after it was stuck in Memphis for a week (weather).

Actually , it was stuck in Memphis because it’s the worst hub in the CONUS and shit gets stuck and/or lost there all the time (source: ex-Tennessean, me).

I’ll say that I made my first order from Apos recently and shipped free-to-me via DHL.
It was pretty amazing how communicative both parties were regarding the shipping. Speedy too.
They’re definitely addressing that concern if you’re nervous about shipping to US from China.
My Bifrost 2 should arrive tomorrow (already own the Jot2). Got a FedEx alert today. I’ll update you guys what happens.
