🔷 Schiit Modius

Looks like Schiit finally posted an accurate description for Modius lead times:

Anyone using their Modius with an Asgard 3? If so, how is it working out? I wonder if that pairing is a bit too warm when paired with a 6XX.

I tried that setup for a while. That stack make the hd6xx sound big, warm and the vocals where amazing. It was a bit relaxing. The timber was good too! Drums lost a little treble attack but has a good thump to them.

A bit of a technical question for the tech savvy amongst us. I recently bought a Modius and I have an extra 5V -2.5A power supply with an on/off rocker switch laying around from a Raspberry PI build from a while ago.

Looks like the power supply that came with the Modius came with a 5V - .4A phone charger like power supply. I wonder if I would be able to use the 5V - 2.5A power supply with the Modius without harm?

Thanks!

Yes the Modius should be fine with any 5V supply that isn’t crap and has a high enough watt rating.

However it only makes sense to change to another power supply if the new one has a more precise/cleaner output. That Pi supply is unlikely to be an improvement in that respect. But feel free try it out.

Thank you - will do!

Modius now says “SHIPS IN 1-3 DAYS.” Did anyone get a shipping update from Schiit? The Magnius is “SHIPS IN 10-12 WEEKS.” Does anyone know if Schiit would ship these separately?

When I ordered my Modius/Magnius stack back in January there were people who ordered Modius/Jot2 stacks after I did who got their gear before anything of mine was shipped (Order status always said the Magnius was on backorder). When I finally gave up at the end of March and asked about changing the Magnius to a Jot2 Schiit’s answer was "Well the Jot2 would take about 7-13 days but your Modius will still be on backorder until April 22nd. I don’t even think they allocate stock to existing orders until everything is there to ship, much less send orders in separate shipments.

Yes, they don’t ship anything separately so I had to cancel my stack order and place a separate one for the Modius. The Modius shipped about 20 minutes after I placed the order though, pretty cool.

That is correct. It just depends if you want to save the extra money on shipping and have them ship a bundle or not. I thought about cancelling my Jot2/Modius combo and just get the Modius now…but I also am afraid of being dropped out of a queue for the Jot2. Now, I have no clue if they actually have me in a queue for the Jot2, but don’t feel like risking it. I ordered my combo at the end of March. At this point I can still enjoy my other Magni/Modi stack just can’t do balanced.

Honestly I don’t think they have a queue.

Hi all,

My new iMAC will be arriving soon! I will need to purchase a USB C - Micro USB cable. Any recommendations? Maybe just an Amazon basics cable should do the trick?

Thanks!

Hi guys! Can someone help me identify the stock charger and cable of the modius.

I think the ones I marked are the OG

After recently getting an Asgard 3, I’ve been eyeing up the Modius to have a stack.
I’m currently using my G6 as a DAC but would likely still keep it as a gaming input. From there I would have a switch of sorts for listening between the Modius/Asgard for music and then the G6/Asgard for gaming.

How much of a difference would there be between the G6 and Modius in terms of a DAC?

Is there a specific reason you’re going after the Modius? The big deal about the Modius was that it was so inexpensive for a DAC with balanced XLR outputs, which isn’t going to serve any purpose for you with the Asgard.

No specific reason to be honest.
I just felt that it got good praise for the price and the footprint of it would go with the Asgard. I wasn’t too sure if there would be any noticeable difference between it and the G6 though.

The footprint thing I understand. I’m just not sure you’d be getting that much out of it compared to other options. I have an Asgard 3 running here in my office off of a ZEN DAC V2 and it’s been great (TrueBass FTW). The nice thing about the ZEN’s small footprint is it can sit on the Asgard 3 without blocking the vents:

If you’re just looking to get off of the G6 and get on a Unison DAC you could do the Modi 3+ and save yourself $100. If the G6 does the job for you now you might want to stick with it and save up for something more feature rich DAC wise.

The G6 pretty much does what I need. I just wasn’t sure if I was missing out by utilising the G6 as a DAC only and if the Modius would have been a good improvement. The G6 does sit on top away from all the vents too so that is a bonus along with the mic input for gaming.

To be fair, I’m probably just bored and looking at spending a little money towards the hobby.
