Searching for the perfect pair of headphones max 350$

Hello people of hifi I’m insanely new to this(my headphones right now are the sennheiser HD 4.40BT)
and I am looking to buy something nicer.

What I’m looking for is something fun I don’t care at all about monitoring or anything work related, just something for casual music listening and some gaming/movies/youtube

I mostly listen to Metal(korn, black sabbath, avatar, system of a down), Rock(beatles, David Bowie) some punk, rap and hip-hop moslty underground.

The headphones I currently keep an eye on are the: SONY CD900st.
AKG K712 PRO.
Beyerdynamic dt770.
Sennheiser hd58x or 6xx.
HarmonicDyne Zeus.
I think that is all. I am open to suggestions and opinions.

thank you for your time and i really appreciate anyone who will reply.

Hey man i have DT770 250 and 80 ohm im selling if you are interested

Do you have DAC and/or Amp to run them on? If not, that’s something to consider.

You’ll find very quickly that WHAT you’re running them off of is the next important question.
Do you want to use them portably or set at a desk (or likely both)
Does sound leaking in and out of them matter for where you’ll use them? This addresses if open-back/closed-back is a better option.

In addition to having a wide range of “impedance” which is their electrical resistance, headphones will also have different sensitivities. The folks on this forum have a lot of experience and will tell you if you’re crazy to try to run these off of a phone or computer.

Is there any money in the budget for outboard devices like a Digital-to-Analog-Converter (DAC) and/or a Headphone Amplifier? These will make a pretty dramatic difference in your experience with the headphones you get.

Some others to consider are the Hifiman HE400i (Planar Magnetic) and the Sennheisher HD560s.
Like mentioned earlier, the how and where are very important. If you want to use them on the go then open backs are not ideal and very hard to drive headphones aren’t either.

currently i do not, I was thinking to buy the headphones first and run them of the pc/phone until i get maybe the modi/magni or some geshelli’s.

i dont care for portability as i have the bluetooth headphones for that

and my plan is to buy the headphones first and maybe in a month or two get an amp and some time later also a dac.

also about the leaking i dont care too much as they are going to be in house use unless they leak so terribly that the family members sitting 4-5 away will get annoyed.

nono i just want to use them inside the house. Thank you for the recommendations, i will do a search for them, but what do you think about any of my options.

depends on the price and also where you are living because if you are in the usa shipping to me might cost 100$

Of the one’s you’ve menioned I have only heard the DT770’s, and that was in a rather dubious setting so even though I wasn’t impressed I don’t think I’m in a good place to comment on those.
I do think you’re better off getting a pair of headphones for around $200 and get a good DAC/AMP with it, since it can drastically alter the sound.

i was thinking about getting an amp/dac some months after so i can have both good headphones and amp/dac

Is there anything about the sound that you’re prioritizing? These cans listed are pretty diverse.

Well I am a huuuuge noob as to the terms and what they mean(like warm sound, neutral and that stuff) . That’s the reason I said that i wanted something that sounded fun and my music preferences because surely some headphones sound better with different genres.

oh that’s right, should have asked location sadly yes in the U.S.

I would also add the AKG K371 to your list for a good priced closed back with a fun tuning, that’s if it’s available where you are.

My concern with the DT770 (especially lower ohm versions) is that treble could get overwhelming. I have the 600 ohm version, and it’s nice, but mids are fairly vacant. Warm typically means that there is more emphasis on lower frequencies, making the sound a bit more rich/full bodied. V-shaped is emphasis on bass and treble regions (DT770). Neutral has minimal emphasis added to any specific frequency range. That said, if you plan to start out running them on PC/Phone, I might recommend the 58x. It’s not very source picky, but will scale well to something like a Magni/Modi or Liquid Spark stack. This assumes those options are available to you where you’re located.

I think for your situation and original selections, I would go Zeus.

Im sry,but thanks.

yep i have heard about them i just dont particularly like the design but i will think about it, thanks again.

Hmm so i think i would like more the warm and v-shaped phones as i like my bass. I mean most of the things are available in my country(Greece) but very often the shipping can be a pain in the ass.

Thank you very much.

Alright. Do you own them so you can tell me how do you feel about them or have any other recommendations i should consider?

if not then thank you very much for ur time

I’ve not had these cans.
You don’t need closed-backs, so I would pursue open-back cans.
You seek a “fun” warm sound signature to coordinate with genres you listed, and you have the budget.
As much as I love looking at K712, I’m wondering if they’re now being superceded by some newer options.
The aggression of the music deserves something more intense than the Senns.
Though I’m a big Sennheiser 600-series advocate, these aren’t the genres I think they do best with, and I’ve oft thought they don’t “rock” the hardest.
And looking for something that can be pushed pretty easy.
I get nervous recommending Beyers to everyone, despite enjoying them myself. A lot of people are much more treble-sensitive and bass-hungry than I seem to be, so I factor that in.
