šŸ”· Sennheiser HD280 Pro (new version)

Just out of curiosity, what would happen to something like the Nighthawk Carbon or other biodynamics on the BH Crack tube amp?

It would be real strange, I have tried them on some of my otl tube amps and they do go nuts, the bass is just really screwed up, the presentation gets somewhat scrambled, and it just kinda sounds confused if that makes sense

Hmm okay so a no go then. I suppose a hybrid might work better then.

I would say so, or perhaps a transformer coupled tube amp with lower output impedance, but imo I think a hybrid or more colored solid state is my pick

Just got a pair of these in today because I was tired of having an AudioTechnica ATH_M50x as my only closed back.

So far from my minimal listening, they sound surprisingly detailed for $100. Everything seems to sound pretty well balanced and I think it will be a good monitoring can but I also think it’s pretty enjoyable to just listen to on it’s own. The downfall of them is they are really uncomfortable. I wear glasses so maybe it won’t be as bad otherwise, but the clamp is extremely tight and the pads just generally aren’t the greatest. I might leave them to stretch out over night because it really is rough.

Other than the comfort complaint though, these are definitely worth the money I’d say. Not sure if pad swapping with drastically change the sound signature, but I am assuming it probably will. I picked them up for $80 so I really can’t complain much.

yeah i left them to sgtretch out a bit on my desk speakers and the clamp loosened up a decent amount where they no longer bother me. I also want to try some different pads on mine strictly because of the material used on the stock pads.

Yeah I think I will stretch them overnight and see if that helps, but I don’t want to loosen the clamp too much. I did an overnight with my M50x and it helped a lot, so I will probably do the same for these.

I am curious if anyone has pad swapped these. I feel like it would change the sound too much, but I also have no idea because I don’t have extra pads laying around haha.

same here, im not sure what pads would fit on them nicely

Definitely – you often see these in studios. Especially for the mids they’re really neutral.
I don’t know if the new version got anything above 10khz though. The old version just didn’t. No ā€œairā€ whatsoever.

Anybody tried to pad swap these yet or no?

Not yet. But I am going to try out at least one fo the dekoni offerings.

I just ordered a Dekoni pad from Drop like a week ago… should get here in mid-June, so I will update whenever that gets here

The first version of these was a good example of the difference between percieved touch point quality and actual construction quality and dependability. They felt a bit low rent but were actually extremely robust, reliable headphones that just went and went. If these new versions are the same you might never have to buy headphones again if you like the sound. I had the old ones which I used with a sound desk and though they weren’t my favourite headphones for listening to music they were detailed and did the job they were bought for very well.

Got my Dekoni Earpadz today. They have a velour-type option and a regular leathery-type. I got the leathery-type (Midnight) because I wanted to keep the most similar sound signature to the original pads as possible. These things are so much comfier now as I’ve been using them the entire night since I got home from work.

Bass might be a little bit punchier, but they pretty much sound the same as with the original pads from what I can tell. Also I am starting to love these things. With the Asgard they aren’t super clinical and have a bit of warmth to the low end that makes these kind of a fun warm-neutral sound sig. For $80 + $30 for a new set of pads, I think this is a really great option for a neutral headphone that I assume would scale well with different amps… Still waiting for my tubes to come in to try it with that, but I am excited!

Gonna order those pads right now. Only bad thing about the comfort is those stock pads

Yeah I would highly recommend it. I got them from Drop, but I think they are the exact same price as I got them on Amazon right now but without waiting 1 month for them to ship lol

I’m on canada and, for whatever reason, had to use ā€œincognito modeā€ to even see the Earpadz. Here’s the Amazon link:

Will buy soon, because I got two pairs of old, ā€œabandonedā€ HD280 Pros. Maybe they’ll sound better with this (doesn’t ship to canada for now, though).

These are the amazon.ca links, but, both are unavailable (from amazon.ca) for now:

Ok, what the hell, lol.
Their Earpadz aren’t even on the Dekoni’s website, HD280 Pros aren’t even in their list, they bought Earpadz.com for the Earpadz:
