I feel the same way with my new amp (Pro iCAN). In Canada the list was $2,500.00, plus tax. A total of almost $3K. I paid half that. I feel pretty good about it at that price.
Although, if you turn off ALL the features and don’t use/need the extra power, I am not sure that it is any better than the Violectric or even the Liquid Platinum.
Updated my setup again organized things a bit better for now, got a few new things and moved setups again. Have a schiit wyrd and some other stuff coming but Its changed a bit so I thought I’d post an update. Found a decent stand that I might add a small shelf to later, Its an adjustable microwave shelf that happened to be the closest size to what I wanted so It works for now.
Interface: Audient Sono
Mic: Marantz MPM 3500R (Active ribbon mic) with Fethead Phantom
Headphones: Audeze LCD X, Audeze Lcd2c, Sennheiser HD 600, Sennheiser HD 58x jubilee, Audeze Sine, Fostex purpleheart with ZMF ori pads, Sony mdr1a, Sony mdr XD100 with brainwavs pads (One of my first headphones), Beyerdynamic DT990 pro, Creative aurvana live (x2), Audio technica ATH-A-550Z, Koss Ksc75, Tin T3, Fostex T20, Sony MDR XB700, Sony mdr xb1000,
Its has its issues (I find it can get kinda fatiguing, I would assume from the Diana’s being so, so, so underpowered) but I have never heard timbre this good on any other setup.
So, in my opinion, I’ve come a pretty long way over the past year. After starting out with an X2HR, vModa BoomPro and Sennheiser GSX1000 back in April of 2020, this is where I am now:
Headphones: X2HR with Dekoni Choice Suede pads. Hifiman Sundara with Dekoni Elite Hybrid pads, Focal Elegia
I also just finished replacing my old Creative BlasterX Katana sound bar by adding a pair of Adam Audio T5V’s to the pre out of my A90.
As an addition to this rig at home I’ve also got a stack on standby for when my office re-opens (currently set for September 1st), an ifi Zen DAC v2 and Asgard 3:
Just reconfigured the HP Battlestation.
2015 Mac Book Pro > Roon > Matrix X SPIDIF 2 > Exogal Comet+ DAC > Eddie Current Studio B / SPL Phonitor X / Decware CSP2 / KOSS ESP/95X
Speakers in use are Decware Tiny Radials w/ BIC America Venturi V1220
For a desktop environment supported by a subwoofer they are honestly my favorite combination. I have used them on multiple tube amplifiers and they have yet to disappoint with any one of them. I am looking forward to when Steve catches up and I can get one of his newer “Heavy” pairs. They image insanely and have a nice wide soundstage. being omnidirectional you are just about always in the sweet spot even if moving your chair around. They are small, you will get decent volume, don’t expect to blow doors off their frame though.
You have visited and seen the “mess” that is my home, I forgot to show you the “cable” closet…it’s also where i store the construction warning signs… yeah…insanity at its finest.
Currently this was my progression (not in order on picture) to what I have now. My Clear MG Pro’s are my endgame.
Still running this off of a Schiit Magni/Modi stack until my Jot2/Modius combo ships from Schiit (been 3 months and counting). Couldn’t be happier though!
Progress. A little simplicity. More focus on the sound I like. Better understanding of my core use cases. And a clear(er) understanding of my equipment roadmap.
Roon/Qobuz/Tidal for streaming - lots and lots of tunes!
