I love-love-love my Elegias. They don’t seem disadvantaged being closed backs like some of the others ive tried.
Very clever kit idea.
Thanks! I just kinda figured it’s what I would want and went from there. Now to see if anyone feels the same though. Really like your setup too, btw. One day I’ll get ahold of a 789.
The kit in question:
Yeah, that kit is a cool idea. I’ve done much the same, except I’ve standardized on 2.5mm balanced cables for most of my headphones, and I have an assortment of 2.5mm-to-something-else adapters. I can use any of my headphones directly with my Astell&Kern players, or I can plug into anything else with an adapter. In fact, if you look closely at my Elegia pic just above, I’m using a Moon Silver Dragon cable with one of Massdrop’s XLR adapters to my THX amp. A little further back, the “gaming Elegia” has a short 2.5 TRRS to 3.5 TRS cabled adapter (from Amazon?) going to the Antlion USB adapter.
In any case, a nice matching kit of adapters looks like a nice option, and the mini-XLR you’re using looks like a sturdier option than 2.5mm.
One piece of feedback–and take this with a grain of salt, because this is totally my personal preference–I am not a huge fan of braided sheaths on headphone cables. They’re great for interconnects, but I’ve found that nylon-on-nylon can make for terrible microphonics, depending on the headphones. The worst cans I’ve had for these were my Fostex TR-X00–cable noise drove me absolutely nuts.
I have collected a variety of cables from a variety of companies just to get a sense of different options, and to see if I can find any meaningful difference between cables. Personally, I don’t subscribe to magical audible differences between cables–my experience has been that the signal path (e.g., balanced vs SE) is important, but any well-constructed cable gets the job done as well as any other. What that means is that my personal priorities in a headphone cable are first and foremost a suitable length, a balanced terminator, solid construction, and low microphonic noise (which generally means a more supple cable). I also like a good aesthetic match with my cans, particularly the more expensive / shmancier-looking ones.
Anyway, I figured I’d mention that just as a bit of feedback “from the field.” I think the idea of adapter kits is a smart one, and wish you luck with your business!
The “Kit” thing was exacrly my first approach
Thumbs up
Easily. Its a very expensive Swiss Army knife.
OOH bb.
I just want to say I love you in advance. That Multi-Kit looks amazing and is just what I need. I’m very likely to put an order down with you soon. I need replacement cables for pretty much my whole lineup, ranging from LCD2 Closed-Back, HD700, T60RP to Tin T2’s. Speaking of which, can you do MMCX and do you ship to Sweden?
looks awesome, definitely will purchase some in the very near future. Do you do other colors besides red?
Got one boxed up and ready to head your way on Monday <3
I really appreciate that! I’m working on a dual 4-pin mini-xlr design at the moment for Audeze stuff. I’ll make a note to shoot you a message when I’ve got pricing on that. We’ve got the stock HC-2 and HC-6 designs for the T60RPs and Tin T2s, we’re trying to make sure our stock designs ship in two business days. The HD700 would be a custom shop order so a little longer lead time on that one, but doable! Message me here or shoot me an email at [email protected] if you want to work out the details.
Totally happy to do other colors, we just can’t guarantee the 2 business day lead time on that, just shoot a message to [email protected] with what cable you’re thinking and what color and we’ll get the ball rolling.
Nice, I’ll be planning to place the order around the end of October, I’ll hit you up with an email soon. Speaking of the mmcx cable for the Tin T2s. What are the measurements and weight of it? I’m currently using the stock cable for them and I’ve done an L/R swap (L cable to R earpiece and vice versa) so I can more easily pull the cable over my ears in a loop. Is it possible to do that with your cable or would it be too heavy / stiff for it? I’m hoping it’s possible as it’s much more comfortable to wear them like that than their original intended arrangement.
Current endgame:
HD6xx
Hifiman Arya
JDS Atom
Topping D70
Also have a WH-1000XM3 and 1More Quad (not pictured)
Darkvoice 336SE ships on tuesday (finally!) and also waiting for my 789 and Argon MK3. JDS Atom will be heading to my office once I receive my 789.
Headphones I really want to try out and probably buy/keep not more than 2:
Rosson Audio Rad-0 (beautiful design!!)
ZMF Verite (I also love the design and probably will sound great with a tube amp)
Sony Z1r (I love percussions)
HD820 (I need a closed for my office)
Audiofly AF1120s I use them in a variety of ways. Music, gaming, etc. They are very versatile and require little power to drive. So I use a denon reciever at home when gaming, my phone some, I have a few tube amps, and i also have a bluetooth cable which is great to have and drives them nicely. I use tidal masters, and these are end game monsters iems like these just do things my planar over ears cant. Iems like these are like listening to butter melt if it made a sound. Love mine.

Very impressive. And those Falcon’s!
Yes, they were an impulse buy while I was away on travel and just messing around one afternoon. I really like their sound signature, and they are really cool…lineage, history and all.
Dude what are those Lifted Blue Bench Cookies??!!
Rockler bench cookie plus master kit.
And thank you sooo much for all the hard work you put into your reviews, don’t change a thing, i love listening to you on my long ass drive to and from work every day!
They certainly are a special pair of speakers. I’d like to have a pair some day. Thanks for sharing your great collection.
