I how about end game travel-working-edition.

iPad Air 2020 to M11 via Bluetooth to use with TinT2. Laptop is for “working” so nothing special outside the MX Master 3. I do have my Celestee but they were giving me headaches so back to T2’s. I could not get the DV336 in my carry on for the plane.

M11 is to small screen to watch YouTube.

In AZ looking at buying a new house. Setup at my parents house. I am not missing WA whatsoever.

With work and travel reopening this will become a thing for all of us COVID audiophiles.

Welcome to AZ! We need more audiophiles around here!

I really like the silver setup. Most people stick with pure black, but I have to say the silver gives off quite a nice brightness.

The only thing that’s changed since my last post is the headphones. I’ve Lawton modded my X00s and gotten the Hemps and Elegias.

I’ll look into a DAC upgrade sometime soon. I’m thinking a modius to make a matching Schiit stack, but don’t know if it will really be worth it.

Bf2 would definitely be worth it

If you’re gonna upgrade the DAC, go for the Bifrost 2.

I would love a bifrost 2, but it’s hard for me to justify so much money on a DAC when I don’t know if I can even hear the difference. I’ve never spent more than $500 at a time on this hobby, so $700 for a DAC is kind of hard for me.

Edit: Unless either of you have a good deal on a Bifrost 2 for me

I agree. It’s a shame the Bifrost 2 didn’t work out in this setup though. It was just a horrid pairing.

I still think so, Modius still sounds more sophisticated (albeit difference is small) than the 99USD bunch DACs.

Yeah I get that, bf2 surprised me with how nice that it is though

I’m with you there. I just don’t think the value proposition is there for the BF2. I don’t know for sure that it will sound 3x the price better than what I have now. Actually for me, the station that needs the DAC would be the headphone rig, so there is some flexibility there, but even then, I don’t think I can justify the price. I keep thinkin about it though.

It helps that you can’t get one right now anyway, which in itself is pretty sad.

It just occurred to me that value proposition and Hi-Fi gear don’t usually collide in the same sentence, do they? LOL!!

Truth be told, I have discovered there are varying depths of rabbit hole one can go down. There is value to be had in the art. All in all I feel like I have done reasonably well in procuring gear that sounds really, really good and yet is not overly expensive. All in I am at a little over $1,700.00 for my current desktop setup. Not too bad.

Is it end game for me? I don’t think so. But it’s not far off, either. There will always be that desire to go just a little further! In fact, I did pull the trigger on a pair of Sundara’s today. Don’t tell anyone…

This hobby is one of the best examples of the law of deminishing returns. The next 1% increase in sound quality will cost you a lot more than the previous 1%, so for me it is about finding my level and then only ad stuff that makes a difference.
An example is the streamer I got; it improved the SQ quite a lot as I got my flac files and streaming away from a noizy computer. That was a better buy than a new Dac or Amp in the same price bracket. Not saying I won’t upgrade there, but for now I am happy.

Its all about enjoying the music ultimately. I think too many of us (myself included) get caught uo listening to the gear and not the music. Ultimatekt, if you like how your music sounds, it doesn’t realy matter if you have grand utopias or 2006 skullcandies. You are at end game

The equipment is fun (I love me a new DAC or amp), but some of the most fun I’ve ever had with music has been on the cheapest setups.

I firmly fall into the category of “COVID Audiophile” - I got into the audiophile game due to being locked in a small room working by myself all day. The music (and this forum) have been a great outlet for me this last year!

After a year of experimenting (winners and loosers for sure) I’ve settled on a setup that I really enjoy. When I sit at my desk I don’t look at it and feel anxious for an upgrade. I enjoy it. So for the near future, this is “end game”. I may add a Loki EQ to my Asgard3, just for some extra fun at my listening chair. But overall I am in a place where I enjoy the music and the equipment that I have.

Desk Setup (desk not actually curved, just an artifact of the panorama picture):

The equipment (XLR switch box to route Soncoz “L-whatever” DAC between RNHP and Erish, weighted door stopper to minimize microphonics in the Erish… or just to keep it from sliding around…):

Atom Stack to drive desk speakers - iLoud Micro Monitors (storm trooper to keep unwanted EM radiation interference away, YMMV):

Requisite backside view (iFi SPDIF iPurifier 2 connected to CCA for network streaming via ROON:

The wall of headphones (w/ Abraham Lincoln to remind me that “all headphones are created equal”)

And the listening chair (adding a Loki EQ would be fun, especially when I use this for watching movies - APTX-LL Bluetooth receiver hidden under the shelf, CCA used to stream audio via ROON, and the weighted door stopper on top of DAC to minimize microphonics ):

Honorable Mention (not pictured here):

  1. BTR5 for mobile listening - this device never ceases to amaze me
  2. DragonFly Red into Topping L30 for listening at my cubicle at work on the random days I actually go in (it’s an odd setup, made out of parts I couldn’t return and didn’t want to sell). I keep a set of kph30i and blon BL03 at the cube to listen to - so if the L30 blows them up it’s not much loss.

Again, thanks to this forum for a great year! I wouldn’t have survived COVID without you!

I just moved and haven’t finished moving or decorating yet, but that’s okay. It’s been way too long since I have updated on my end game setup.

(Ugh, couldn’t even hold my phone straight)
