The equipment is fun (I love me a new DAC or amp), but some of the most fun I’ve ever had with music has been on the cheapest setups.
I firmly fall into the category of “COVID Audiophile” - I got into the audiophile game due to being locked in a small room working by myself all day. The music (and this forum) have been a great outlet for me this last year!
After a year of experimenting (winners and loosers for sure) I’ve settled on a setup that I really enjoy. When I sit at my desk I don’t look at it and feel anxious for an upgrade. I enjoy it. So for the near future, this is “end game”. I may add a Loki EQ to my Asgard3, just for some extra fun at my listening chair. But overall I am in a place where I enjoy the music and the equipment that I have.
Desk Setup (desk not actually curved, just an artifact of the panorama picture):
The equipment (XLR switch box to route Soncoz “L-whatever” DAC between RNHP and Erish, weighted door stopper to minimize microphonics in the Erish… or just to keep it from sliding around…):
Atom Stack to drive desk speakers - iLoud Micro Monitors (storm trooper to keep unwanted EM radiation interference away, YMMV):
Requisite backside view (iFi SPDIF iPurifier 2 connected to CCA for network streaming via ROON:
The wall of headphones (w/ Abraham Lincoln to remind me that “all headphones are created equal”)
And the listening chair (adding a Loki EQ would be fun, especially when I use this for watching movies - APTX-LL Bluetooth receiver hidden under the shelf, CCA used to stream audio via ROON, and the weighted door stopper on top of DAC to minimize microphonics ):
Honorable Mention (not pictured here):
- BTR5 for mobile listening - this device never ceases to amaze me
- DragonFly Red into Topping L30 for listening at my cubicle at work on the random days I actually go in (it’s an odd setup, made out of parts I couldn’t return and didn’t want to sell). I keep a set of kph30i and blon BL03 at the cube to listen to - so if the L30 blows them up it’s not much loss.
Again, thanks to this forum for a great year! I wouldn’t have survived COVID without you!
