I would guess that the size of the driver has a very specific ratio of tuning compared to the coating/diaphragm materials. In other words, I think its possible that certain material combos work better for certain driver sizes based on the diaphragm diameter.

Exactly so I dont think my findings would apply 1:1 for iems nor for headphones.
What I would do for iems is to order some from huayunxin or haoyun and try out different diaphragms first to generalize what you want, then apply that knowledge to the specific driver you want and see if you can fine tune it even more.
Then you also have the magnet strength which also affects the sound, at least for bud drivers weaker magnets tends to have more mid-bass.

LSR surround, LCP coated Beryllium dome.
Ill be dead honest, I don’t like BE coated anything except for bass alone and that isn’t this set. I hear a metallic sheen over the higher frequencies.
LCP diaphragm, so far is the gold standard for these 11mm’s. And, Im gravitating towards these versions with a CNT surround. The details and staging/layering is better.. it just is. They also sound slightly wider and more 3D.
Is it significantly more than the LCP? Just curious.
You arn’t following closely which is probably normal. BOTH Drivers have LCP diaphragms. The one going around has a PU surround and the one I have which I like a hair better for 3D is CNT surround with LCP diaphragm.
Ah alright I gotchya. Lotta three letter combos to keep track of lol.
I know a few things:
PU which is Poly Urethane is super compliant, meaning elastic and flexible. It can also flex in modes that are not linear. CNT is some material with carbon nano tubes embedded in it. You can see them distinctly on a microscope. They lend some stiffness to the material they are impregnated in.. which I do not know what it is. They are light AF and don’t make the mass greater in general. LCP is Liquid Crystal Polymer which has been used for many many years and its perhaps the gold standard for IEM diaphragms in the aspect its been used and well loved in many tunings. It is very light, fairly stiff and lends a high-end air to sound. More treble, more details.
Then we got PEEK and PET which I haven’t been able to flesh-light out. We also got BE coated stuff which I have plenty of and I HATE for one-driver applications. Metal coatings or ceramic or whatever is fucking trash imo. It’s making the diaphragm heavier and thus less nimble while introducing peaks in the higher frequencies which have to be either ignored or damped out to death.
Have you tried BE plated LCP diaphragms?
No, as I stated, I do not like BE at all. I wouldnt waste my time tbh.
2nd dude got TT to test out and I think he noticed the stage vs anomaly which he purchased.

Just my take on a tremendous application of a proper 1k iem and how it should and does sound!’

Damn, that’s love for sound right there.
I got some heatstroke yesterday doing my normal 12,500ft run. Turns out it was way worse than I thought. I was about to puke all night and still dont feel good 24 hours later. My town Taos was 13.1 on the UV index at 1PM and I was right at 12,500ft at this time. Since it was a clear day with zero clouds it was between 15.3 and 17.1 on the same index. I had a hat and shirt and shorts, but legs and arms got it good.
