Gotcha then it hasn’t shipped yet. It must be using a Shopify storefront
Gotcha. I feel like I’m going to have to forget I ordered this In order to wait it out patiently : p
I saw on the Hagerman Technology facebook page that on the 1st there was a post stating he was starting on making another Tuba. Guessing that’s probably mine. For some reason it never crossed my mind that it would be made to order. Feel like a dumbass. So I’ll be more patient now. : p
Next thing you know he’s going to post stating that he messed up the amp lol
Yes I can’t wait for the
post.
Well, I guess that’d be one way to sink your own business. Imagine being interested in someone’s products and reading that. : p
So, when I left this evening to go to my SO’s I saw a package on my front porch. Guess what it was. It had a Hagerman Audio Labs logo on top of the box. I won’t be able to take a look at it until Monday, but I’m excited as hell to start using it. Monday is gonna be fun : D
Also, who knows when it was shipped because I never got tracking updates or anything. Maybe that was for the best though, who doesn’t like nice surprises
Looking forwards to hearing your impressions.
The volume knob which also doubles as a way to turn it on arrived broken, so I can’t even turn it on. I’ll have to contact them.
Well, that sucks for sure
Wow that’s a ton of damage, pretty unacceptable for the shipping service. You can see it was scratched right above the volume knob on the edge too
Oof. it seems as if though the entire pot was bent outwards, try and see if there’s anyway to get it fixed (I’d recommend you doing it yourself, but NOT if you have some form of warranty). Also since the pot doubles to turn it on, that might be a bit more difficult of a part to find DIY (For the Audiophile Types I mean).
Oh also geeking out a bit with the design, but since it has a Low/High type input and uses the 119DA, it probably connects to the tube in a Cathode-Follower integration since the 119DA reflects a 600ohm load (Cathode Side) at 4/8 loads (Headphone Side). Be weird to use 600 ohm at the plate but maybe the lower voltage affects the plate, I don’t think so though, so If it was a bit bigger of an amp, the design could have been a bit more advanced by providing High-Impedance OTL and Low-Impedance 119AD “Switch” of sorts, allowing for the High Impedance side to provide some ability of changing the sound further by “Rolling” different Coupling caps at the Output, besides the tubes I mean.
Then again amp would end up being a bit too DIY at that point.
Oh, and I guess the idea is to be compact, which it seems to do nicely.
My condolences for your amp, hope it gets well soon.
Looking at the chassis, I don’t even know really know how to get it off. I’m not the DIY type, and probably wouldn’t know the first thing to do about any of it. There is a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a 10 year waranty, so I’m pretty sure it’ll be taken care of, but I’m just not thrilled about sending it back and waiting even longer for it. Also anxious about when I’ll get correspondence back. It’s pretty depressing.
Since you’re interested in it, here’s the page with specs: https://hagerman-audio-labs.myshopify.com/collections/amplifiers/products/tuba-vacuum-tube-headphone-amplifier and here’s the user manual and it includes a look at its circuitry: http://www.hagtech.com/pdf/tuba.pdf
The amp is really fun to look at, also it’s a Pentode, makes sense though since pentodes can output more than a regular triode, especially in a hybrid running at low voltage, but pin 3 goes to the transformer, so it seems to be a Cathode Follower type design with 2 470uF coupling caps in the way, at 25V which is enough for this type of application.
You could probably repair it yourself, but I highly recommend to send it back though, since if you mess up the amp has no warranty and you essentially have a nice paperweight. It sucks but it’s better to wait and get it back eventually than mess up and have nothing at all.
Also does the shipping cost anything or is that also covered in the warranty? Still hope you get it back in good condition, gl.
Shipping should be covered in the warranty. I know I’ll enjoy it when I get it back, it’s just gonna take a while.
Oh that’s good then, hope you get it back soon, I have quite a bit of fondness for tubes so it’s always a shame when an amp breaks. Good thing you have a warranty though.
Got a reply. Didn’t expect one today. He’s going to be sending me a replacement Tuba along with a return label for the broken one. Made me happy : ) Thought I was going to have to send this one to get repaired and then sent back. So it should be a much shorter wait. Yay!
Dang, that’s pretty quick, hopefully you get it soon lol. I sure hope the shipping company pays up and he doesn’t have to eat the cost as that would be really stupid if he did
Oh wow, super good service then, he’ll probably repair the broken one and resell it later, but amazing that he’s sending you a working one already. Great news.
