Should I buy the Liquid Carbon X?

Interesting, I kinda want to go hear one now, well hopefully you enjoy yours when it gets there :+1:

I don’t think mine has actually shipped yet, instead it seems like a label was created and it hasn’t actually been picked up by usps yet. Makes more sense, I guess. I’ll probably try to do a review here when I get it and make a new thread for that. Feel sort of obligated to make a review when there isn’t too much on this product out there.

I mean a simple is it good or bad would definitely suffice lol

I’m also interested in what you think, I’m looking for a step up from the ZDT Jr.

Already lol? Just messing with ya, yeah there are a lot of options out there to consider

I really like the ZDT Jr, but I think my next upgrade after the ZMF’s show up will be amp.
I’m tempted to pick up a Liquid Gold from Monoprice in Feb when it ships to replace my Jot, but I really don’t want the onboard DAC.
Tube amps between the ZDT and the $2K+ low volume stuff seems to be a bit of a no mans land in valve amps. There are a lot of amps, but little agreement on what’s better.
I suppose a lot of it comes down to tube rolling being a big part of the price point.

Yeah with tube amps each have a different sound that has their fans, lots of things to consider without a real clear answer

It’s also just hard to be able to audition the stuff.
So much niche stuff, plus fans of wet tube sounds and dry tube sounds…

If you go to shows that is a decent way to demo if it’s actually quiet lol, or find a dealer which can be more difficult

Also a lot of the tube amps in that range are more 1 man bands or small companies that are very niche so it gets harder to actually go listen to them because they aren’t that common

Having listened to the Gungnir on my speaker system a few days ago, I am interested in the SR1a’s, if they can really pull off the speaker sound, I could be convinced at the price…
Shows might be a good way to listen, just need to time to attend them.

They can lol, it’s pretty great. It’s not quite to a speaker in a room level and more reminds me of a nearfield monitor

It seems like tube amps are the hardest thing to look into, because of this. It’s definitely been the most confusing thing of all to research. I’m not sure how someone is supposed to be able to hear much of them without spending a whole lot on it, and that’s just not something I want to do. If I end up enjoying the amp, I’m not likely to be getting another, personally. I will be trying all my stuff on it, to see how well it powers everything. At least one review said it powered everything he had despite the thought that it probably wouldn’t.

The way I did it in stereo, was largely by buying stuff I couldn’t locally audition used and selling what it didn’t like, but once you start looking outside common equipment, it’s hard to find one, and prices are hard to establish.

Yup, that is a very good way to do things if you know how to keep loss reasonable

Updated my previous post, since the forum is crapping out on me, ugh.

Off topic, the thing that blew me away with the Gungnir on my speakers was the improvement in spatial depiction. I hate to describe it as holographic, but it was really nice, and you just can’t get that from headphones. And it’s not as if my existing sources were terrible.
Anyway Gungnir is back on my headphones, if I can find somewhere to properly set up my speakers, I might be forced to buy another one or something else to compare.

Yeah, that’s the main thing I use to judge how good a dac is, on how it can recreate a space. Most of the higher end dacs just do that better tbh. You can get excellent detail already for a good price, but getting good spatial representation is a decent bit more pricy. People are looking for the wrong aspects when looking for a high end dac imo, instead of looking at face value detail, you should be listening for better representation of space

Just realized since it’s free shipping maybe it doesn’t have tracking. It might just show up randomly on my doorstep. Anxiousness intensifies

Did they say it shipped out and send you an email? What shipping service is it?

The email says “Your order is on the way”, link goes to generic status page that says: "Your order is confirmed

We’ve accepted your order, and we’re getting it ready. Come back to this page for updates on your shipment status. "

Usps is the service.

I was thinking without tracking, that page might never update.
