šŸ”· Singxer SA-1

I own both the SA-1 and V280 and I completely agree with Tommy. Iā€™m also not super experienced at finding differences between amps, but they both sound nearly identical to me on my library. There have been a few instances when I swap back and forth between the two and I think the V280 resolves better, but more often than not they sound the same to me with my music. I mostly listen to rock/rap with many subgenres between the two.

HOWEVER, when I A/B them with with classical music, which I donā€™t regularly listen to, I could tell a definite change in soundstage and slight positioning differences. The SA-1 is a bit narrower and with much less depth, but I would be hard pressed to tell them apart in many other scenarios.

Edit: I should mention I used the Arya and Clear MG when testing.

omg thank you iā€™m not crazy after all haha, i was getting worried for a minute because i felt that i SHOULD have been supposed to talk about the differences that were there given the price difference!

i mentioned this earlier, i thought that too but was unsure. as a note, my case is that i did not a/b but simply replaced it in the chain

Yea, I also said this in the G111 thread that to me the G111 resolves just a tad better. But both are real close. The Singxer is slightly warmer sounding. If you would like to have the option to go balance with your headphones in the future, then go for the Singxer, but the G111 is still a solid buy. (One downside of the Singxer is the hi/lo gain switches under the unit)

yeah same, think i mentioned that earlier here as well! really cool to see someone else is having the same experience with the same gear, thanks for writing i think thats super cool since i tend to doubt my ability to listen!

I might consider getting one of these in the future. Any idea how it compares with the Jotunheim 2?

I have the RNHP and I just got the Singxer SA1. I wanted to ask @M0N how would you compare the 2? They sound very similar to me but everything the RNHP is seems better in the Singxer. Maybe cause theyā€™re both class A? I find myself looking for a reason to keep the RNHP. Maybe I shouldnā€™t.

What headphones and dac? Still 800s and auteur? Donā€™t recall what dac you ended up settling on

So stage wise, the singxer to me sounds a bit wider, but lacks some depth and accuracy in the stage compared to the neve, the neve has a more microdynamic focus with more low level information overall compared to the singxer which is a slight bit more macro focus, the singxer can hit a bit harder in the bass with more low end grunt but less texture and refinement in the low end compared to the neve, the treble on the rnhp is a bit more prominent and less smoothed over with more speed and resolution, the midrange is a bit more organic on the neve with more information still with the singxer having a slight bit more midrange thickness though. Signature wise I find the neve more natural-neutral where the singxer is more warmer smoother leaning. Singxer is also more forgiving of both source pairing and source material. Personally I would find the neve a bit higher preforming given you have the right headphones and dac, but the neve will just not work well with harder to drive phones and itā€™s more revealing of the dac, so the singxer will pull ahead there if the headphones or the dac are a poor match with the neve

I settled on the Bifrost 2. Also been really liking the HE560 V4

Gotcha

Nice, thatā€™s going to be much better on the singxer I would guess lol, that headphone really appreciates power

I mean if you are finding you arenā€™t using the neve due to the singxer, itā€™s most likely not worth keeping if you arenā€™t getting any reason to use it. Iā€™d just do some comparisons to see how things fare before deciding on anything, like spending some days with the neve exclusively and then going to the singxer for a few days to really compare and see how you feel after that

Iā€™m surprised. Maybe some variance in the the SA1? To me the sa1 sounded more forward to me. More detailed. It sounded to have sharper treble to me. brighter. the rnhp seems to have more midrange and the singxer more v shaped. the singxer much more resolving. I would never call the singxer smooth. seems more exciting to me. more edge. also the singxer seems less forgiving of source material. one song in particular sounded the harshest ive ever heard on a amp, on singxer. I have not tried the 560 on the rnhp. I have a lot of headphones. which headphone would you say is good to compare the 2?

Hmmmm interesting. I think @mochimashu also has a singxer and rnhp, perhaps he can chime in for a comparison as well

What do you have at the moment?

Try the elex and elegia, 1990, auteur, and the 600s, as those should work well on both

Oops that wasnā€™t me. I only got the RNHP and an H16

But this pretty much is my impression on the RNHP at least (actually the part about SA1 sounds a bit similar to my H16 too)

I was surprised looking into the official headphone amps section that there wasnā€™t an entre for this amp there. Especially with Zeos championing it and it being like his favorite amp. Its like amp of the year. I had to search and try this thread hoping it was the main thread. @M0N

Ah got confused then lol, my bad

Will make this into an official thread, I didnā€™t even realize it wasnā€™t until now

Edit: converted

interesting take, i feel im hearing more smoothness and warmth out of the SA, i dont have the RNHP but just talking on a general basis as an amp in itsself, very much like what m0n is hearing
