šŸ”· Singxer SA-1

Do you recommend this over the Rebelamp?
Are there significant differences with them and which dac do you recommend pairing with them?

I just got mine in today. Listening with Koss kph30i Ultras, balanced HD 6xx, 58x, Fostex TH-X00s and Monoprice Retros. There is nothing like that class a sound and the build is top notch. This thing will last forever.

did you hear about the removal of the caps on the pins on the PCB to get better audio quality? iā€™ve been looking but iā€™m not finding anything on it, i heard about it watching zeosā€™s video on it. i also contacted singxer but only got in contact with a generic support team who had no clue, thought i was talking about the gain switches at the bottom somehow

No, and unfortunately I donā€™t have the unit anymore to try it, so idk there

alright thanks for the quick followup, appreciate it!

Any thoughts on SA1 vs Gilmore Lite Mk2 vs RebelAmp? Three class A in a similar price range

Also a quick catchup: very, very happy BHC purchaser reporting back. I have no words to describe other than liquid, smooth, magical. What most surprises me is that it satisfies 90% of my vocal requirement and that 10% decrease in details / texture I have heard on the Gustard stack is well compensated by the overall very relaxing, natural (in the sense that it doesnā€™t feel artificial) vinyl-like presentation. This applies to HD580/600/650 DT880/990, R70x and Atticus, all the usual high impedance stuff. Iā€™ll be auditioning other SS amps like we discussed last time to see if something else is better than the Gustard stack.

I actually stumbled upon an Airist RDAC so I thought I might as well hear it myself. It makes me rethink and appreciate how good the BF2, in terms of absolute technical performance. Tonally I find the Airist a tad too thick and warm, was wondering if Ares II would sound sth between Airist and BF2?

And lastly no I donā€™t think I will be selling the BF2 and RNHP, now that BF2ā€™s SE is connected to the BHC. I really think that the RNHP is great if not the best (under Ā£500) pairing with Focal headphones and for that reason alone Iā€™d be keeping it. Now just searching for a second, more versatile setup, either SS or tube (likely with transformers) that can deliver sth different for both high and low impedance stuff

Would depend on what sig one is after, to me the gilmore lite mk2 is on the brighter end of things a bit more analytical, the singxer is more on the warmer smoother side of things, and the rebel is somewhere in the middle. Detail between the three is all on an equal level, with perhaps the slight edge to the gilmore. Spatially the singxer might be the most spacious or the rebel, the gilmore is a bit more narrow (but more depth). All three are decently dense, but the rebel might have the most density. Speed wise the singxer might pull ahead followed by the gilmore. Dynamically the singxer has more impressive macrodynamics and the gilmore has more impressive microdynamics, rebel in-between. Timbre wise Iā€™m actually not sure, would have to think about that one

:ok_hand:

I think you could potentially consider the ares ii that, worth trying for sure

Makes sense

Youā€™re welcome,
But be careful, I read something about different current voltages when I was skimming.

I donā€™t know if that affects anything.

That doesnā€™t make decisions easier haha - do we not have a Gilmore thread? Is it too unpopular here

So anyone find the Z control is similar to DIRAC on the monoprice 788?

Have you seen someone suggest that? I havenā€™t found the Z switch to be very beneficial so far.

Does anyone here prefer the high Z mode for certain cans? If so, let me know which

I have both amps and though itā€™s not the same it is similar. I was just wondering if I was crazy lol. I could see where high Z would be used to analyze music making the sound stage closer. Please bare in mind Iā€™m using it with my isine10s right now so there is a massive change when I flip the switch.

Thatā€™s interesting. So you found it to mainly affect the soundstage with the isine. I hadnā€™t noticed that with the headphones Iā€™ve tried so far. I will need to experiment some more.

ive noticed volume changes but only notably with my aeon noire which is 13 ohms only, what do you think is going on, any idea?

have to write in more or i wont be able to post twice

Well I think itā€™s the nature of the isines. They sound like big headphones while being driven off of almost any source and they take eq adjustments like a champ.
Itā€™s super weird though, I was watching a TV series last night and with the sounds of rain falling and low Z I swore I had ATMOS speakers going. The rain sounded like it was hitting my roof. Turn high Z on and everything closes in and rain sounded like it was right above my head.
I canā€™t wait till the rest of my collection series from the movers so I can test more.
