Guys can anybody figure out how the damn pads come off? I fiddled around and Iâm pretty sure they do not come off like on the SV004 (you just slide them off). It seems that this metal piece is holding them, but idk if the driver is attached or what. I donât know how to detach them from these metal parts - there seem to be two placed across eachother (horizontally). Anybody else took the time to see for themselves? @ZeosPantera
edit- It seems to be attached at 4 places - 2 horizontal, 2 vertical
How do you twist it. I donât understand how do you grip it without having the possibility of ripping the earpads. Never came across a twist mechanism for the earpads
Have the earpads face towards you and twist to the right. Apply a bit of force down towards the earcup to avoid ripping the pads. I gripped the thicker side. Theyâre locked in there so It takes a bit of force.
Did it. Had to push each one with a credit card, and push each one back with the credit card. Definitely not doing it again, takes too much force, I think it will be pretty hard to get a pad swap for these guys.
Today I tried to measure, it seems like the width is 87mm, and the height is somewhere between 87 and 89 mm. It seems like no Dekoniâs will work. Itâs very weird that they chose a very weird pad⊠I mean who likes a pad to be so tailored on one side that your ear is literally on the driver
I couldnât grip it⊠I really had to use a credit card and push (with A LOT of force) each thingy that holds it down. I donât know why Sivga decided to switch it up with the Phoenix, wouldâve been much more convenient if it was a normal slide on/off pad.
Letâs break away from the pad discussion for a bit.
These guys sound pretty goood! I was expecting a less mature (before I wrote immature, so it gave the wrong impression) performance, but am actually enjoying them quite a lot. Is the soundstage as wide as some other open-back headphones? No? Does it bother me? Unexpectedly, no. Do they have deep and rumbling sub-bass? Hm.
So the sub-bass. You can feel it rumble in some cases, but in Hans Zimmerâs âWhy so Serious?â at mark 3:36 - the sub-bass does rumble, but it might not satisfy the bassheads. Itâs at the very moment of writing this comment that I might be realizing that the sub-bass is balanced instead of overemphasized and boosted. What do you all think?
The mid-bass has a very satisfying punch and weight - I am overall very satisfied with the bottom-end performance.
The mids⊠havenât formed any formal thoughts about them. I cannot say if they are natural/unnatural, because that requires some analytical listening⊠and so far I have just been enjoying music. I will say that it doesnât show any signs of being shouty/tinny or funny sounding.
The higher frequencies are interesting. I would call them warm with the highest top-end rolled off, but I cannot ignore that they had the sparkle in songs like: Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven, Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-5), and some others I havenât written down. In Travis Scottâs âSto Trying to Be Godâ at mark 5:59 (Stevie Wonderâs harmonica hits the peak) it lacked the sparkle it was supposed to have.
Thatâs it about my quick impressions of it so far. Câmon people, share yours too - we are curious
Here is a gem - this person goes quite in-depth about the Phoenix. Does an excellent job expressing himself, uses reference tracks to back up what he is experiencing, slightly touches some technical terms, and also gives some suggestions. I love this, would love to see more people providing reference tracks.
Itâs an useful read for anybody wondering if they need the Phoenix.
