Yeah typically if you don’t think you need the extra gain, just set it to the lower gain. Just make sure you set it so you have good volume range
Have you figured out an opinion about the 560 yet?
Some people just seem to like high gain. You see that a lot on Schiit stuff. I find low gain in the Vali 2 has Lots of power and a great sound. Different strokes for…
Plugged in my new toy today. First impression is that it is Tiny! So the cheapest THX amp is also the smallest? Yes please.
I am running an RCA split signal from the SMSL SU-8 to the SP200 and the Burson Fun-Classic. Now several hours of comparisons. Using my Grado GH2’s via 1/4" Jack. So I can switch back and forth just about instantly.
Very curious to see how they will compare.
Not yet, I’m going to do a lot of listening over the weekend to figure out the 560.
Is anyone able to compare the SP200 to Aune X7s? Or even better how AKG K712s do sound on it
I’m using the K712s with Aune stack and just wondering what could sound better with them.
You might get a bit of a quality bump, but it wouldn’t be that large imo. The x7s is fairly clean and powerful
Yes, that’s what I’m relying on, that the X7s is very clean and quite powerful. I’m mainly interested whether the K712s would sound noticeably different (better?) with more powerful amp which has also very low output impedance, like the Thx ones.
Anyway I think I’m gonna save some bucks now and maybe purchase the Aune X5s, the desktop digital player…
Got my sp200 a few days ago and honestly I don’t hear any difference in quality over my JDS labs EL amp, but I don’t have a quick switching method to switch between the two amps quickly, so once I do I will report back here.
This is what I wanted to hear.
It’s only been a couple of hours, but my early impression is that I prefer the Burson Fun-Classic over the SP200 by a hair. I have no doubt that the SP200 is technically better and certainly more transparent and neutral.
Thing is, I am not a fan of neutral. My favourite headphones are my Grado GH2’s and Meze 99 Classic’s. Not 'phones you will ever find in any audiophile’s collection, except as guilty pleasures.
I kind of expected this with the whole THX thing, but I must admit I am just a little bit disappointed. The Burson is a little warmer, has a little more bass and softens some of those harsh edges.
Lots more testing to do with different headphones and music types, but just wanted to mention a first impression, in a limited situation.
In the same boat with the EL amp but more testing is needed.
So far, not exactly what I expected from all the hype behind THX, I was expecting maybe a little bit of a different flavor. May want to return this for a tube amp. But I’ll do more testing first.
I was kind of expecting this as the big deal about THX is that they are quiet, tranparent, neutral, etc.
I didn’t mind as I have two Cavalli amps that are very textured and far from neutral. Also, my Burson would probably best be described as warm. The Schiit Vali 2 is a hybrid tube amp and seems much like an SS amp with a bit of a twist.
I will be keeping the SP200 and will likely be colouring it with the Schiit Loki down the road. It’s been a while but I think this amp is similar to a past amp that I had: iFi MICRO iCann SE. It was kind of boring, but very powerful. However the 3D switch and bass boost were Very cool features.
I’m thinking about either the xduoo ta10 or ta20. Can’t decide between the two. Leaning more towards the ta10 I think.
Well I would say it would depend on if you have a good dac or not
I have the RME adi2, but to add another amp I would need to run a splitter or switch, which I’d prefer to avoid
I have been running an RCA split cable out of my SMSL SU-8 and it sounds great. Not sure if you can or would want to split an XLR.
Ah, well I do think the ta20 would make more sense but if you don’t want to split/switch that’s up to you
If you do want to split

Have you ever used XLR split cables? Any opinion on them?
They work just fine for most applications imo. I have used them when I needed the signal split at the same time, otherwise I just use a switcher
