thank you.
I remeber him giving scores for different topics between 90-100
so all 3 are not bad for the budgets

I never understood the Benchmark HPA 4 using THX. I always thought THX was good for more economy amps. why use it in a 3500$ amp?

BTW what does Linear mean?

In what context?
It’s often used with PSU’s just means they use a big ass transformer and a rectifier, instead of switching mode PSU. They introduce less noise, do all higher end audio gear tends to use Linear PSU’s.

Which output is better on this amp? The 1/4 or the XLR?

Don’t you own one, just compare them…

RCA Input with XLR Output is best.

This things value is pretty outstanding. Do not understand why they decided to go for the tilted chassis. The potentiometer in this amp is the worst potentiometer I have ever used. white led>blue led.

I only noticed the slant when I unboxed it. My desk is black though so that’s probably part of the reason I never notice it

I know!!! SMSL has a history of unusual component shapes, and that’s a good thing. But that slight slant is so-close-but-not-quite square that I find it off putting rather than clever.

You know what would be cool? since the amp is tilted to the right have the matching DAC thats coming out tilt to the left. whaoo! wouldnt that be cool!

unfortunately the DAC just tilts further to the right. its gonna be the leaning tower of pisa stack

That would be great lol, people would absolutely lose it. You have to make sure the tilt isn’t event too, so it’s slightly more aggressive than the tilt on the amp

The dt880 600ohm headphones revealed something a little disturbing about my amp. I think i found this on another set of headphones but i cant remember which. but on low gain (havnt tried it on high gain) the volume knob from 3 oclock to 6 stays the same. doesnt increase volume. anyone else get this?

I had a similar problem when I had an FX Audio X6. It had a really unstable volume pot (internally), randomly jumping on a hair trigger, then suddenly plummeting lower than it was before, then back up again.

Yes, that happens with all my cans that can reach those volumes…

just recieved mine and holy crap this thing is pure amazeballs paired w/ my topping d50s + senn hd 650’s

hey, i hope you guys can help me.

i got my sp200 last week used it and was happy with it.
then i read in multiple threads (here and on other sites) about some faults…
so i tested it with nothing connected (but power of course) and played around a bit.
i found that i got a decent hiss noise with rca on beyond 11 o’clock speciallay on high gain. the same with xlr but from 11 to about 15’clock.
i used a singel outlet with nothing else connected and my fideliox2 for testing.
is my unit faulty or is it normal (i did not notice that while listening to music)
should i return it?
thx

That is pretty high gain and normal. You would only be concerned if you could hear that at listening levels, so no issues it seems
