šŸ”¶ TANGZU x HBB Wu Heyday

My left ear gives me a lot of fit problems as well.

Yes, and heā€™s got me ordering flippin Spiral Dots (not the ++ ones he likes, yet, thatā€™ll be over twice the price).

Anyone trying the included tips? Iā€™m liking the large ā€œbass enhancedā€ ones. Something about the relatively short nozzles on the Heyday has me going with large tips for the best seal. Iā€™m used to a longer bore and small tips.

Has Tangzu ever clarified why the hell there are silicones called ā€œFoamsā€? They are unique to the others but donā€™t seem to have a foam type effect.

Left ear problems gang count me in. Itā€™s always the one that loses its seal when working out :pensive:

Lol same. If itā€™s a shallow fit I need a bigger size in the left than right

Finally got Xduoo Link2bal from HiFigo. First good news: it pair quite well with Heyday. Bass is great, well textured, highs are smooth and still detailed. Sounds very musical overall. Compared to MacBook Pro with M1pro chip that has quite good internal DAC, link2bal presents slightly wider soundstage and tighter and more textured bass. Overall tonality is quite similar.

Link2bal sounds more impressive with moded Olina. It really opens them up- much wider sound stage, better micro details and smoother highs presentation.

Unfortunately, the DAC is defective. Right channel produces loud distortion and intermittent lower output. This is not due to IEMs, since it is happening in all 5 pairs I listen to. This happens in both balanced or 3.5mm output. It also happens with either connected to iPhone or Mac or even Android phone.

I looked dipper in Mac OS settings and when you connect the DAC, this is how levels are set between right and left:

This not only Mac issue, since once I correct and match L and R volumes, disconnect, then connect to iPhone imbalance occurs again with loud distortion.

I tried different cables, tried restarting my Mac and IPhone thinking the software is glitchy, but it is still happening even on Android and any devices I try.

I sent email to HiFigo support. Will see if they replace it.

Hey guys, can anyone who own both comment on how accurate this is? Does the HeyDay sound like the RSV? Now Iā€™m really really curious.

Thatā€™s interesting and cool! But in all other graphs show the RSV peaks much later than the HD

speaking of sqig link: anyone have the Heyday and the original Wu? Could you humor me and tell me if the Heyday sounds like the original when you generate an AutoEQ from HBBā€™s sqig link to do this?

Iā€™m curious about the original sound, and about squig link AutoEQ!

also, I got my missing cable terminations from Linsoul in the mail this week. Not bad considering Chinese New Year. Sound difference from my much thinner temporary cable? Canā€™t tell. Iā€™ll try to A/B a little. Anyway itā€™s niiice

Though about sharing my take of these HEYDAY.
And no, they donā€™t sound very similar to the bassier lusher WU.

THE PLUS:
-smooth organic near neutral balance
-effortless crisp and clean resolution
-safe and fatigue free tuning
-deep bass extension
-transparent mid range
-beautiful male and female vocal
-crisp airy and extended treble
-one of few planar offering proper sparkle and resonance
-mature tonality
-sturdy metal construction that look good too
-excellent modular cable

THE MINUS:
-rather lean dynamic
-jack of all trades, master of none
-slightly recessed mid range
-softed texture and upper mids bite
-average soundstage
-mellow bass punch that lack proper definition
-while clean, space between instrument isnā€™t wide

I donā€™t play with EQ, but can already half confirm its impossible they sound highly similar due to technical limitation of OG WU. but now i dont want to talk through my hat soā€¦i might try to find a way playing with thisā€¦i just never play with auto EQ and stuffsā€¦just on UAPP and Hiby Musicā€¦

yet, im one of those that prefer the guilty pleasure bassy lushness of the OG WU. Heyday is leaner colder. Superior in imaging resolution etcā€¦

I realize what I said wonā€™t make much sense unless youā€™ve used the squig link EQ tool. Iā€™ll describe it and show the results for this case:

Add Heyday & original Wu to the graph, nix the HBB target, go to the EQ tab on the left, select the set youā€™ll be using from the drop-down, then hit the AutoEQ button. Itā€™s supposed to give you a profile that will make it match the other squig. In theory this will make the Heyday sound like the original (especially since planars like this supposedly EQ well, and the drivers between these sets are largely the same). I like the result, but being more of a neutral fan, prefer the Heyday anyway.

Hereā€™s whatā€™s in the exported txt file that can be imported into Peace and whatever:

Preamp: -4.4 dB

Hmmm looks like you need an AMP for this in order to use its full potential, though I wonder what amp should I use when I am like planning to use it with my phone? It does have a headphone jack, but I think it would be safe to have a portable dac/amp powering up my own set of Heydays if it arrives.

I have a HiBy FC4, but when the G5 arrived, it was lying idle. Anything is better than a phone

I have an iPhone so I just use the apple dongle and they sound fine. Iā€™ve played them back to back switching between the dongle and an ifi hip dac and the sound quality to me is similar at lower volumes. I think a simple dongle dac will be fine. Just my opinion.

Yeah thatā€™s really good to hear if a simple dongle dac can get the job done for my Heydays. But I think I am going to save up for the Shanling UP4, since I lost my Fiio BTR3K and I am pretty much got spoiled by the wireless feeling of me not plugging my IEMs directly to my phone. I wouldnā€™t need a DAC/AMP if only my A52S has a very good DAc in the first place.

@K4sh1ma Just an fyiā€¦iwii reviews recently found that the Apple dongle
works fine for Iphone, but with Android only puts out HALF its power. (Didnā€™t work well for my Android phone.) Looks like youā€™re on the right track with Shanlingā€¦or other dac/amp with sufficient power.

thanks for your u12t eq above by the way, nice sound

heyday vs original direct sound comparison. Not sure what i should listen to this on lol.

Anyways, loving the heyday. The original would probably take my head off with, say, the new Asake album.

Coming from a mostly very budget background with IEMs, it kind of reminds me of Sony MH755 (bassy) compared to the more neutral Tin T2.

For what itā€™s worth, much of my Heyday listening is on the Shanling M0. Half volume is plenty loud and clear. Thatā€™s on high gain setting ā€“ i occasionally run my HD6XX with it.

I tried and canā€™t really tell the difference to my desktop setup (Topping D10 and Monoprice Liquid Spark).

Edit: Apple dongle also great unless i have to deal with the Android limitation (start and exit USB Player blah blah). Perfect on Windows for example.
