The Lawton tune up is a great way to improve these headphones. I can’t comment on the cup side (the foam that goes in the cups) as I only briefly tried it and didn’t care for it, but the driver side (the vinyl strips that go on the driver housing) really clean up the sound. The driver side portion won’t change the frequency response any, but will improve things like clarity and separation of instruments (subtle but noticeable things).
I think that for the extra $90-120 ($15 for rings, $45 for the Lawton tune up’ and $30-60 for pads) these are defiantly for the roughly $600 total price.
Can confirm, the Drop TH & TR X00’s are built and assembled in China. The TH900 & TH909 are the only models that i’m aware of that is built and assembled in Japan.
Here’s an interesting tidbit… ZMF is now stating that you can not buy the stock Aeolus pad from ZMF. That it only comes with the Aeolus, leading me to believe that the stock Aeolus pad IS THE Accessory House Global perforated sheepskin pad! It is identical.
These are genuine ZMF Ori hybrids. I still need to properly compare the sound, but I can say for certain that this is the most comfortable option. The only pad and headphone combo I’ve found to be more comfortable is the HD58X with the Yaxi alcentara pads purely because the ear hole is an enormous easy 4 knuckle. I also personally like the Sennhieser clamp.
I ordered Accessory House’s (AHG) TH909 sheepskin pads to replace my TH-X00 stock pads. They are definitely thicker than the stock pads (see below). At its thickest/widest point, my AHG pads measure 1in (254 cm) from stitching to stitching (the ear-facing portion adds a few more cm). As for Emu Teaks, these AHG may be on par or thicker with those stock pads. I don’t own an Emu teak myself.
Can you link those pads? they look less glossy than my AHG pads. I’m curious if they are a different pad entirely or if they just look different in the picture.
Yep, those are the ones I have used on my TR-X00’s in the past.
Currently I’m using stock pads or the AHG pads that resemble the stock pads. I’ve been finding the treble to be a bit too much for me with the large AHG pads.
sand it and relacquer it. they did a horible job first time around if it looks like that already. sand then use 5 coats. sand in between each coat, will look like new again when your done.
