Its a bit exaggerated how much power the he6 v2 needs… it scales really well but you can drive them without that much power, it will still beat alot of other cheaper hifimans on a reasonable desktop amp
Has anyone tried the HE6SE with the Oor? Or know from anyone they trust that it’s a good pairing?
Haven’t gotten to that pairing yet but I’ll make sure to get to it soon and let you know. My guess is you’re eyeing up that deal. My gut says do it as several power Susvara with Oor and it’s also a difficult drive.
I saw your review of the HE6se but I don’t recall - did you talk about amp pairings? Are there any <$1000 amps you feel drive them properly to get the most out of them?
I bought bought both on previous less generous sales and I have no regrets!
I did. At the time the Lake People G111 was the bare minimum. The Cayin HA-1AMK2 tube amp also does a pretty good job. I’ve been told by sources I trust that the Flux FA-12 and Cayin iHA-6 also do the job. The new HiFiMan EF400 does a fantastic job.
@robotecture made an excellent point. With these deals you get 2 very good and complementary headphones for $850. The EF400 will drive them both very well, and I think HiFiMan offers a $100 discount on it if you show them the receipt for a new HiFiMan headphone. You’ll want to get Lohb strap for the HE6 and get a new dual 3.5mm cable for both because HiFiMan and Focal are forever trying to race to the bottom on stock cable quality. But, they both will accept the same aftermarket cable.
So that’s $850 for 2 great cans, $599 worst case scenario for the EF400, and probably around a total of $150 for the Lohb strap and a cable that doesn’t suck. So essentially, $1500-1600 for a damn good - like really damn good - head system.
@Michael just did a cursory listen driving the HE6se V2 from Oor + Hypsos fed by either BF2/64 or Berkeley Alpha S2 and yeah, it’s good. No worries on power delivery there.
Agreed about the power exaggeration. Amps are so powerful any more, I think that line of thinking is a bit outdated. However, pairings do definitely matter.
You have the link for the 6se as well?
I got a pair as well, couldn’t resist!
tempted to try HE6SE again with the EF400 I originally tried it with the FA-12 and wasn’t impressed… when I asked everyone said “that’s not enough power you need a speaker amp and a adapter” lol
anyone here wanna lend me $350 so I can get the Elegia?
lend, as in I will pay you back…over like 2 months?
Sure I want to, but can’t
