I am absolutely devastated that this happened to you, man. I am so sorry. I Hope there’s a fix somewhere here with your situation.
Thanks, I appreciate that. There may be an option for best buy to give me the discount at a future time when it gets back in stock but I have to talk to a manager about it tomorrow when I return them.
Honestly Im not terribly upset. It was definitely a spur of the moment purchase and I just got the Moonlight so my bank acct is probably happy its going back haha. Also while Im sure they sound amazing that cable is pretty awful and the idea of investing in Senny exclusive cables is bleh
I used to work at Best Buy back in the day, if you make enough of a fuss, a sales manager or the GM in some cases can make exceptions. Especially if it’s a defective unit. Give it a shot - let me know what happens.
I know I said I wouldn’t update this thread anymore but I just wanted to say I got lucky and when I went to return it to Best buy they saw one in stock and are shipping it to me! Should be here by Friday
Absolute W! I appreciate the update, good sir! I feel like I’m involved somehow because I suggested the link lol
I’m waffling on this sale. I have the Elex as my daily driver, but this seems like an opportunity for a step up in the line. If there’s been chatter I missed it, is there any reason not to bite in regards to sound? Am I going to miss something from the Elex, or not really hear any significant difference? I just want to avoid buyer’s remorse, as I’ve never been able to listen to these before The Elex were a significant step up from my old 6XX.
Never heard the Elex, so I can’t give you a detailed comparison.
I imagine the Elex sounds better, but the Elegia is a nice closed-back option for that violent focal sound signature. I do miss my Elegias, especially with that Oratory1990 EQ profile.
- Well, the Elegia is a closed-back headphone, so that will be the first big difference to the Elex. If you have an Elex already, I doubt you will be “missing” anything from the Elegia unless you need a closed-back headphone for work or the purposes of minimizing sound to people near you.
- If you have glasses, just know that it can be difficult to get a good seal with the Elegia.
- The only real downside of the Elegia is what some people refer to as a “metallic” sound in the signature, which I can confirm as well when I owned them.
So in my opinion, $329 for an Elegia is crazy as it’s a very good closed-back headphone with great build quality, but I would doubt you are “missing” anything from your Elex. If you need a closed-back though, it would be a good counterpart to your Elex since it’s still got the Focal build quality and house sound. It’s also very good with EQ and you can pad swap it.
Thanks for the detailed response. I completely got my wires crossed though. I had been viewing the sale for the Clears on headphones.com. Any thoughts on that comparison?
Clears will be different - @WaveTheory will be a better source on that comparison since he has directly heard them both and reviewed them both. If I recall correctly, he said it would be worth the extra few hundred dollars to get the OG Clears over the Elex, but since you have the Elex already I’m not sure if it would warrant the upgrade.
So I received them today and immediately put them in to see if this set was functional and I will say not only is it functional but these boys bump! Sound is great and right up my alley tonality wise and fit is great. Two negatives are the cable and the bass is present but doesn’t feel like it pushes much air. Probably because it’s only 7mm. Still a crazy impressive sound.
I’ll be doing more comparisons to my main DD, the Vortex, as well as my current endgame, the Moonlights. Initial impressions are these render the Vortex redundant but the Moonlights still do some things better.
EDIT: also the Q5K cannot fully power these in SE imo
Absolute massive massive W, so happy for you, man. Enjoy those bad boys!
It’ll just give you an excuse to off load the Vortex, make up some of the money you spent on the 600s, no?
Haha that is where my head is at now. The question is do I offload the moonlight too?? Either way I’ll know more in a couple of days. Thanks again for the info on the deal!!
Happy I could help! It was too crazy of a deal not to point out to my fellow brothers. I would say keep the moonlight - I’ve never heard them, but from what I’ve read online, they have a wonderful balanced, versatile signature. You can’t go wrong with them!
It’s true, they are really great and I have been enjoying them. I’m just a bit worried I won’t listen to them again though . I’ll most likely hold onto them and figure out how I’m gonna dig myself out of this money pit I made…
Trust me, man, you’ll definitely wish you kept them if you sell them. There are some sets I have personally that I don’t listen to every, but I still have at least 3-5 in my rotation. It’s great not listening to a set after you’ve become accustomed to it, and going back to it weeks or months later to fall in love all over again. Keep ‘em, trust me
Sennheiser HD660 S are on sale for $300 on Amazon Prime Day Early Access. According to CamelCamelCamel this appears to be essentially an all-time low price.
I had been considering buying Sundaras, I’m sure they have different sound profiles, but does anyone have any input on the value proposition, especially when they’re exactly the same price? Thanks!
Do you have or have you listened to any other Sennheisers around that price point? The 600 or 650/6XX? I owned the 660s briefly and while I thought they were nice, they didn’t really blow me away over what the 6XX offers. They do match well with a good tube amp though.
imo depends on use case and preferences but I personally disliked the 660 and liked Sundara
if you get them both you can compare them and return what you don’t like
The Sundara are already a great value but @PMT12 is selling a nice pair over on the Buy/Sell and Looking for Thread - may want to check them out!
