Hi guys. I write lazily so sorryā¦
I will send back the starfield because the grippy texture of all iem tips dries my ears out af and ear wax is a big problem. I know CIEMs wont change it but cleaning is easier.
I love the sound of the starfield except 10% too dark bass.
I want to order L3 in CIEM. What do Linsol want from Ear Impressions. Should I have my mouth open when I do it professionally because 2 internet personalities got f ed buy Vision Ears (in Germany). How dont they know (the professionals at VE) know that CIEMs can fall out when the impression doesnt compensate the bone / muscle movements?
How is the sound. The Neumann NDH20 will always be more relaxing and my comparing standart but the detail in such a smal IEM makes me wonder how good a 270ā¬ CIEM will sound (including 50ā¬ for impressions, taxes and standart price).
I tasted the blood of fallen angles (Max Payne 1 meme). The seperation just is too good. Open back headphones isnt possible and THX Panda still is a few months away so that on the go the Q5S + IEM is perfect I guess.
A good fitting quality iem will always be more resolving and detailed then a similar priced headphone (within reason) but it will generally lack a bit sound stage and bass/sub bass compared to itās over ear HP brothers, so itās horses for courses scenario tbh.
Do they accept digital impressions because Linsol says they have to approve it?, and also how do they want the impression; mouth sligtly open or closed because muscles / bones can push CIEMs out??
Soā¦ I think Iām a down down guy at heart, however Up Up is ok too. If just one or two are up its a no go for my ears, too piercing or something, really fatiguing. Deff. like doubles up or down tho Must be something on my end for I guess Iām not the down up of ole BGGAR and others.
Interesting i have to play with switches myself a bit. So far I listen on default tuning which is down down I think and totally love the set so no reason to change other than curiousity i gues :
Managed to listen to the Starfields for a bit. Absolutely love the detail and soundstage. How do the L3ās hold up in regards to detail and soundstage when compared to the Starfields?
What song do you want a head to head on? Iāll even try to swap configs on the L3 and use stock tips on the starfield. Right now Iām rocking horn tip on them and really small type e tips on the L3 for reference.
I too am using small tips on the L3 (usually use medium). They go deep in the ear canal. Using Spinfit small on the L3. I wish the stem was just a little thinner on the L3 or a little bit shorter.
Dunno if youāve ever tried this but I was just having a difficult time getting a good seal on my new IEMs yesterday when I read that it helps to pull on your ear when inserting the IEM to help open the ear canal. When you let go of your ear after the IEM is seated, it kind of locks it in place. Itās a lot easier to get a good seal using this method.
So initially on Scarlettās Theme its a laid back song and matches well with the laid back but detailed sound signature of the Starfields. A good sense of space as well. So with the L3, its more efficent at the same volume level on my V20. After reducing the volume a bit it still feels like vocals are more pronounced and detailed with easier pick up of the backup vocals. No issues with instruments, but I can say with the Bass string instrument it has more presence and warmth/tone to the song. Not as clear of a punch on the low end with that song too with the 00 position and using my deeper insertion with the type e tips. The vocals step forward even more with more emphasis of the string instruments(possible violin etc.) on the 01 setting ppl like so much. Its a more engaging sound, but not my style and her vocals become grating due to the quality of youtube/just how it is presented. Also with staging the L3 in either setting seems closer. Turning up the volume to get the vocals in the same placement makes the presentation feels similar with the Moondrop, but at lower volumes its stepped back for sure. Getting down to brass tacks I think that the L3 is more engaging, but can cost some soundstage. Both are pleasant, and Iām not picking up missing details unless you count how apparent the sounds are, not how clean they are. Again from a youtube stream LOL and with up to 20% more power needed to get the starfields cracking.
With the bass test: I think both are good, but with the stock tips on the Starfield and the e type tips play a bit on this, both slam, but the L3 seems more controlled and less quantity(still good, but doesnt make me nauseous lol). The Starfields were absurd on the song LOL. The level came up when I swapped to the stock tips, and it hit a touch lower, but the amount is too much for me, and I prefer the type e tips on this song. Its very close tho.
Overall: with these 2 songs, its hard for me to tell, I think the big difference with these songs you chose is in the treble and mids. I feel that affects the presentation. I think the L3 is more engaging, but less soundstage and more intimate with more separation on instruments and sounds. The Starfield is smoother, larger soundstage and more power to drive.
I hope this helps, but after doing a side by side both sound good, and have good presentations overall. For details I think the L3 wins slightly for me, and for soundstage I think the Starfield wins. I would say the extra value you get in the box and cable make me lean L3 for value, but for raw cost the Starfield is pound for pound good. #canātgowrong
Wowā¦ That was very helpful! Thank you very much for your insight into these two IEMs. I ended up buying the L3ās just to compare myself. Whichever I prefer Iāll keep and the other will be a gift for my sisterās b-day. From the sound of it, I get the feeling itāll end up being a matter of preference.
Np, and Yea sounds like a good plan to me. I think they are both good, but I lean L3 for personal preference. I deff like the Starfield tho so Iām interested in hearing your thoughts too.
