I hate MMCX connectors, but listen to me when I say this… The MMCX on the FD5 is as perfect as it gets. The FD5 cable is one of the best stock cables (and measuring) I’ve ever seen with changeable connectors with all three most popular. There should be no reason to ever remove the cable from the IEMs unless the cable or IEMs become damaged.
exactly and if you really need to remove it. The mmcx assist tool is going to help you with that in a way that will cause the least amount of damage.
I just saw Resolves Clair-Mona comparison. And that’s it after I get custom shell Legacy 4 I’m going for the Clairvoyance, only except if L4 disappoint which I highly doubt it will. No more budget or low-fi iems for me, I cannot really afford anything over 1k so Clar should be perfect for my pocket and preferences.
If you like your Legacy 4, the Clairvoyance won’t be much different.
Really enjoying your impressions guys. Does anyone have a pair of kb believe to compare to the fh3 and fd5? Mainly interested in how they stack against the fiios in the fast complex tracks that you guys talked about
I have both, they are tuned extremely similarly. Many have called the Clairvoyance as the ideal tuning. The technical capabilities of the Clairvoyance are better than the Legacy 4, but most probably won’t hear much of a difference.
So at this point, I already own the universal L3 and L5, and all this excellent feedback is tempting me to get the L4. Has anyone tried CIEM variant of the L4? I’m not 100% sure but I heard the CIEM L3 was a bit different than the universal L3 so I might settle with the universal L4 so its more likely to meet my expectations. This would also be my first CIEM.
It’s the same driver makeup. It sounds different because of the shell design being a perfect fit for your ear and the improved sound isolation brings to any CIEM.
If you have issues with IEMs with tips fitting, trying a CIEM would be a good idea if you can get the molds made and want to pay the additional fee. But you will be rewarded with more isolated “pure” sound of the IEM. You do run the chance of it not fitting properly and being uncomfortable though as well, especially if you wait to send your molds out. You also won’t be able to sell your customs in the future.
I fit standard tips just fine, I’m just wondering if it really is that much better. Also, I have commitment issues so I’m afraid I might not like it.
I’m still deciding between FH3 and L4, if i like listening to orchestra, jazz and j-pop, which one is better for my genre preference? Thanks in advance…
this really helped me decide to just keep my L3’s and get another CIEM pair. I love that almost ported sub bass, i have the FH3’s as well for that sealed sub quickness. Thanks for the vid
I thought most said the FD1 was too bright and metallic, that is why I was looking to FH3, L3 or TC01. thoughts? and why doesnt anyone post sound samples like some of the TWS or headphone reviewers do?
You’re killing me man . I have Legacy 4 and TC-01 on the way, Clairvoyance is next, and lately I want to round up the collection with nice single DD like FD5 hopefully it’s what I’m looking for. So far FD5 looks realy interesting probably even better than Tansjim Oxygen (candidate for single DD iem in my collection)
Any thoughts on those 2?
Besides prog i listen to wide variety of genres as well.
I’m reaching to put the FD5 in my ears more than any other IEMs I own. That includes the Thieaudio Monarch & Clairvoyance.
I own a lot of IEMs. At this point, it’s not at all what IEM is “better”. They are all different and have strengths and weaknesses. I enjoy listening to my music through them all for different reasons, obviously some more than others. This hobby is very personal. We all have different criteria for what we value in music, technicalities and how we expect our music to sound in our ears. Enjoy the ride figuring out works best for you. It’s more fun to enjoy the scenery along the path to your endgame.
has the L4 fixed, thru design any of the QC concerns that knocked down rec’s on L3? Case cracking near 2 pin connector?
I totally agree, journey is important and I enjoy some budget ones almost as much as more expensive ones.i bought and sold not alot but decent amount iems and I’m kinda tired of buying and selling and i wanna settle with the “best of” within reasonable price range and call it a day. Hence the custom L4, Clair for upper mid range tribrids, and 1 great single DD. All BA I’m covering with S8F, and budget ones with T2+ and TC-01.
Ill be waiting for some more FD5 reviews definitely. I’m not expecting for these to be perfect in every way and for every genre, but only to complement each other.
Apparently Legacy 4 now comes with QC card, stating at least some QC has been done. So hopefully past issues with QC are addressed now.
hope is not a successful strategy.
