I have the Clairvoyance and the Monarch. If you’re thinking about either, I’d be happy to steer you in either direction. I thought the Clairvoyance would be my preferred IEM due to everything I heard and read about it. I was wrong. I prefer the Monarch considerably more surprisingly. Don’t make the wrong choice. These IEMs are quite different actually.
The FD5 is a total no-brainer for only $300.00. It’s the best Fiio has to offer IMO.
Thanks brother I appreciate it. Sure I’ll gladly take your advice. I just dont want to spam too much this Legacy 4 thread.
Tell you what, let’s wait until I get my L4 after which I’ll have better picture of what to expect from the twins. At that point your input will be most welcomed.
IEM newbie here. Received my L4s today. I spent the first few minutes trying to figure out which one is left and which is right, and also the proper direction of the cables. xD The included instructions are not very helpful tbh. Thankfully I found some reference photos online from various reviews.
First impressions are really good. I don’t find them very bright as many reviewers have mentioned, and the bass is good enough for me, although coming from Momentum Wireless 3, I can tell that L4s are probably not the best option for bassheads.
I ordered a couple of CP100 S as I am hoping to get a better seal than with the provided tips. I think the ideal tip size for me is somewhere between the small and medium tips included with the L4s.
CP100 is what I usually use for everything and I’ve tried all the popular tips. Spinfits seal incredibly well but some can’t deal with the suction they might create in your ear if the IEM isn’t vented well enough. I think they are hands down the best sounding tips.
I’d pick up a set of each size since depending on the IEM stem length, you’ll need different sizes. I go between medium and large. Congrats on the L4.
Received mine yesterday and spent a couple of hours listening to them. Prefer them with switch 2 on.
Like them a lot. Nothing earth shattering but a very competent set that instantly gets into my main rotation of 3 iems. (S8F, L4 & T2Plus)
Bass is tight and musical and plenty good enough for my taste (I’m no bass head) and rest of the range is handled nicely and is fairly neutral with nothing leaping out at me as wrong.
Pretty solid all round I think.
Haha now I’m sure parallel universes exist.
Out of all the iem I owned and still own i basically rotate between S8F and T2+ with L4 on the way (ciem)
With 2 more on the way TC-01 and FD5
You just summed up my experience with L4 and spinfits. I really liked then on other IEMs, but they build so much pressure it’s getting uncomfortable. With Dekoni Foams I don’t have problems, but I feel like they loose some air to it.
Still gonna give them more time, but the L4 so far have not impressed me. Although it can be because of some health issues I currently have.
The L4 is not a technically impressive IEM. It is, although an extremely well tuned and overall balanced IEM that does not lean too warm or cold for 200 bucks. The other Legacy IEMs are considerably warmer than the L4. None of the Thieaudio Legacy IEMs are very technically impressive.
The L4 is the easiest Legacy IEM to recommend because of its tuning. It’s a very well rounded IEM that will play nicely with just about any genre of music.
Personally I prefer a warmer sound signature than what the L4 has but many may not.
I can try …I’m not too hot on the correct words but here goes;
The T2+ mids seem a tad more forward which can be a problem for some.
The bass isn’t as deep as the L4 nor does the bass have the same level of information in it but it’s clean and not bloated.
Could be said to be slightly on the warm side of neutral.
L4’s I’m still in the early stages but bass is excellent (for my tastes anyway) as its deep and carries reasonable detail.
Mids are a bit less forward than the T2+ and treble seems better extended.
Neither are detail monsters but the L4 has the better resolution of the 2.
All very subjective of course so
YMMV
Ok, I received the Spinfit CP100s and the seal is definitely better than with the default tips. I can feel some suction, but it doesn’t bother me much.
Regarding how they sound, I think it largely depends on the song/genre. Some songs sounds amazing, and I can notice details I hadn’t noticed before, other songs sounds really boring.
I am currently using OFF-ON switch configuration, which boosts the mids a little bit.
Found this useful chart in the review from headphonesty, which explains the effect of the various switch positions
That chart was for the Legacy 3. Thieaudio with the announcement of the Legacy 4 somewhat admitted the dip switches were meant to have more of an effect on tuning than they do. They admitted failure. I think they should have just gone the route of the L5 with one tuning and no switches.
The Legacy 4 is meant to tuned to have both switches down.
“TUNING SWITCHES
The Legacy 4 does feature the 2-switch tuning switches that were found on the Legacy 3. And while the switches do affect the tuning, it once again is not as dramatic as we hoped for. We found the first switch inconsequential, but the second switch does change the output level of the midrange driver by roughly 2dB. This difference changes the overall shape of the graph from a more typical V or U shape, to something a little more neutral and flat in the midrange. Consequently, the resulting volume level will also slightly increase with the increased driver output.”
I’ve never moved my dip switches. The L4 is tuned magnificently with the default switch settings. No need to change them. I really don’t listen to the L4 much so I have no need to mess with it.
