šŸ”¶ Tin P1 - Planar IEM

Kinda wanted to buy these cause of Bad Guy Good Audio’s list but seeing as I’d have to buy an iFi Hip DAC to use them portably that adds up to enough where I’ll probably go for something like the Mangird Tea for that price instead

I think the Hip DAC would struggle to drive them fully tbh I use ā€˜turbo mode’ on my Micro…it’s normal mode is rated at >950 mW @ 32 Ohm and the Hip DAC BAL is 400mW@32 Ohm…they are beasts to drive.

As long as they don’t sound like shit, I’m fine with it not being fully powered, I use a liquid spark for my dt880 600 ohm and that doesn’t have the proper specs to match these headphones either so as long as it’s passable I’d live with it, there are people in this thread saying they’re good with the hip dac on these.

Otherwise are there any other portable dacamps that can drive this thing? And in a similar price range? There’s that xduo thingy for 300 USD, but that’s a bit too much and also that thing is way too big.

Tough call tbh…even my iBasso DX300 4.4mm 1240mw @32 ohms is at 70-80% so that tells you just how hard you need to drive them, sure they work with a lower output but just like some of their bigger full sized planar HP brothers they need juice to really shine :+1:

It has 100 MW more than the hip-dac.

WOW, thats a damn loud. On my Ibasso DX160 4.4mm low-gain (stock, no EQ), I am at around 44%

Yeah stock NOS filter on high-gain and the Z1R’s are at 40-50%…I don’t fine the P1’s get too loud (within reason) as such, just sound better lol.

I hope the DX300 gives you more volume control than the DX160 then (like how my Asgard 3 is at 20% but on the Atom it could be at 5% with an iem) . Because you might want to watch your volume lol.

Yeah the pot spins round and round so levels increase slowly, Ando’s on low-gain with no hiss which is a bonus :+1:

Sorry just realised I’m running my P1’s off the single ended 3.5mm as I’ve not got a balanced cable for them so that’s 350mW at 32Ī© I believe, which makes more sense :+1:

I just sat down with the Tinhifi P1 ($152 on Linsoul). My impression is that the sound is a bit wonky, a bit unnatural to my ear from real life instruments.

Fairly balanced tuning with a good clarity and hit in the mids. There’s a kind of fun sound to them, but I just couldn’t find myself to enjoy them when the wonky sound kept getting at me. I have some similar thoughts in my impressions video (just posted).

Any recommendations on a hybrid tube/buffer source?

It’s been a long time coming…and after hours and hours of trial and error there’s my fav set up for my much loved P1’s…DX312 > MT-604 (6J1P Voskhod tubes) XINHS: 4-core gold, silver plated copper cable and Final E’s :ok_hand::musical_note::metal:

I’ve had them for a few years, it’s really work having them because you need to find that right combo that works just perfectly (personally, I still have fit issues, for one. They’re just so tiny + the MMCX design doesn’t help). But when you find it…just pure butter, pure enjoyment. Best mids I’ve heard in my life

I still so love this set…the fastest and tightest mofo out there…tonight DX312 > MT-604 (6J1P Voskhod tubes) XINHS 4 Core 6N Single Crystal Copper and Final E’s 🫔 OG P1…

I’ve actually got one of these for free, I just need to wait for my mmcx cable to come and then I can see if it works for me

I love vocals but also mixing it with synths or drums or distorted guitars so thus might be a tough library for the P1 (not the plus or max)

If you’re down to EQ, you can probably mold the sound to your liking pretty well.

OG P1 does what it does…not perfect by any means but it’s speed and detail is amazing…drive it right (needs :zap::muscle: and there’s nothing else that can touch in those departments) still entertains me today

yeah trying it on one of my test songs i clearly preferred the FH3 (bassy but has great detail) or Blon BL-03 (a nice fun and cheap IEM)… since it sounded almost… shouty with the P1… like it sounded maybe like it was more scratchy…
