You know, the hs5 was not the only studio speaker to exist lol. It was a common occurrence but there are lots of other speakers used. Also those were more for mixing not mastering
It depends, each interface has its own signature, also the mics have their own signature too, lots of popular mics used were not neutral and had pleasing coloration, same with the mic preamps used
I mean definitely donāt have to chase DACsā¦ Iāve already said my opinion on DACsā¦ that itās personally hard for me to appreciate the differences of DACs Iāve heard so far. I personally still want to try the Ares 2 to see if itās more of a sound i would enjoyā¦ it has nothing to do with chasing accuracy. But at the same time I donāt want it to sound TOO far off from what sounds reasonably āneutralā.
Just want something that sounds enjoyable. D90 is great, but it sounds a tad too dry at points. I was enjoying the hell out of the Rega turntable a lot more.
Iād be interested in how you would compare the rega to the D70.
I always find it so hard to convey how analog sounds, to the point I usually just defer to āyou have to hear the differenceā.
I play guitar and I sometimes tell myself this needs to be simpler. You got the guitar āpickupsā (microphones), all different voicings. You got the amps, all different (obviously). You got the speakers, all different voicings. And I believe even cabling is following the āaudiophileā route and cable sellers add their own wiring for their own ācolorationā.
Now imagine a world where all DACs were colored. Imagine how damn weird it would be to find good headphones or speakersā¦ lol.
(Braces for impact) Iām sorry but I hated autotune and fake artists so much, the Ares II apparently colored the sound so much to meā¦ to me it sounds like āautotune for everyoneā. Lol, Iām not trying to pick on you either @giova05, sorry, but, well, thatās just not my cup of tea.
I mean for studio I have a crane song hedd quantum which is an adc and dac that I can color the sound to my liking with, pretty need stuff, I can choose how it sounds, very helpful at times (but not my main adc or dac)
I mean i was never trying to argue with you about what DAC is better to begin withā¦ lol. Just that chasing āaccuracyā is a bit pointless". Itās not something that really exists. A better measuring DAC doesnāt necessarily mean you are getting more ātruthā to what the original mastering engineer āintendedā that is my only point.
Along with having all the same gear, something to consider is that to hear the same sound, you would have to have the exact same clock which would be somewhat impossible to replicate lol
