TRI I3 Planar / DD / BA Hybrid

Anyone here in Zeos’s patreon and can ask him to review a set of these? Let him know that TRI can send a set over. Thank you!

When these are properly powered (you need an amp that can handle sensitive IEMs), these are what I believe are among the top 3 IEMs in this price range. To me they are the best since I love everything about them… especially after I powered them properly.

Since they are high sensitivity, they were picking up hiss on my EarMen TR-Amp, then I switched to the IEM friendly EarMen Sparrow. No noise, plenty of power, portable.

Much better.

My updated thoughts about this (I posted my review from a couple of months ago in this thread before):
Deep bass response, beautiful mids, extended highs that are capable of delivering sparkle. Huge soundstage. Amazing imaging.

I also didn’t experience any driver flex - if I did, it’s so subtle that I am not noticing it. These have a very tight seal, 10/10 comfort for my ears. Because of this seal, I think some people may experience driver flex.

I still consider them a whole league above most of IEMs. I preferred them over: Audiosense AQ3, BGVP VG4, IKKO OH1, Kbear Diamond.
BQYEZ Spring 2 is more balanced and also another favorite of mine. I wouldn’t compare neither the TRI i3 to Spring 2, nor the other way around - two completely different sounds signatures.

Just received Tri i3 yesterday, I am quite surprised the fit is really ok given its size.
So far they are very good at not doing anything bad. Really enjoyable, they don’t truly excel in anything (maybe except soundstage for IEMs) but they’re just very nice to listen to. Addictive, but in different way my P1s are addictive.
Definitely were worth its price (£92 from aliexpress for 2pin version)

Oh, one weird thing, they match well with pretty much any tips I threw at them. For pretty much any other IEMs I had to spend some time to find good matching tips, with these, even spinfits CP100 L size fit me well, and they just don’t fit me with any other IEMs, truly unexpected

The TRI I3 is quite sharp to me. I don’t think the crossover is well done in these, and yes I’m powering them very well. I don’t trust low priced tribrids after these. To make things worse, the bass sound distant and mushy :man_shrugging:t2: The stage is deep, or rather distant, but it’s also narrow.

In reading up on existing owners feedback (prior to my purchase), I found the consensus was that the Tri i3 needed well over 100 hrs. of break in time; my experience with the Tri i3 confirmed this.

to get ahead of the theory that it’s me acclimating to a new sound signature, versus the i3 loosening up over a good amount of break in time: I don’t listen to my IEMs, while they’re in the “oven”.

Can you give some examples where would crossover done bad be hearable? Some music fragments and what to listen for?
I am not saying it doesn’t do crossover badly, I just wouldn’t know how to tell and I’m curious, and since I have a pair maybe I can learn something. thanks

I feel like I can tell where one driver stops and the next ends. It sounds particularly edgy, artificial and grainy at certain parts of the frequency response. Planar treble is notoriously wonky and BA highs notoriously plastic. Just unnatural timbre all around. BGGAR rates these as particularly nasty too.

My pair has had probably 60 hours of playtime at this point and I’m unfortunately my initial critique still stands firmly.

Thanks for the reply. Can you give some example of song and another headphones for the reference? I got popular HD 650 so maybe I can compare.

I’ll save you time and money - look for some other IEM.

The HD650 is very natural sounding with great natural cohesive mids. You’ll want something not too far from that or it will bug the crap out of you I’m sure.

I’d look at single DD iems first.

The new Tripowin tc-01 is getting good reviews and it’s only $49.

Something more energetic like the Urbanfun YBF ISS014 could work if you’re not sensitive to elevated upper mids/ lower treble.

If you want to move up a tier or two, the new “Audio Lokahi” 7BA set is quite hyped but it’s $239. Supposedly sounds very natural and extended.

Thanks for tips, I got other iems and headphones, I’m not looking to buy
I just wanted to hear myself the flaws of i3 you mentioned.
So if we both have tri i3 (I do, and you do too) and some other iem/Headphones, then you could point me to some track that sounds bad on i3 and good on the other pair that we both have.

Apologies if I’m not very clear.

Just an info that my i3 started having an issue:
the 2pin socket started being wobbly on the right earpiece - part of it is coming off the shell (like ~2mm).
I guess I am not that much surprised, it’s chi-fi.

Anyone knows if it’s something easy to repair at home?

A photo to illustrate it.

Will it just get worse and I should slowly say good bye to it, or is it fixable in any way?

maybe you can tape it somehow.

Just tried and the tape just is not strong enough, the force (to the sides) when touching the cable is quite strong. I might try with stronger tape or with some “pin” between shell and the socket. I just don’t have anything that small

hmmm, how about using blu tack?

Ok. After a bit of playing with tape, razor blade and blutac i got some results.

It’s as stable as new now plus easier to recognize which is right earpiece :joy:
