šŸ”¶ Tripowin X HBB Olina

I hope so, i cancelled S12 for these lol!!

I think you shouldnā€™t think of the Olina as a straight O2 replacement for cheap. These are, at the end of the day, different IEMs. Both VSG and precog have reviewed the Olina for what it is, which is a 100 USD single DD, and both agree itā€™s a rec. I donā€™t think youā€™d be disappointed if you think this way.

I only say this because I am an O2 owner and I too originally thought of the Olina as a replacement; I will compare for myself when I have both on hand, but I also think itā€™s unrealistic to expect the two IEMs to match in every aspect.

HBB put his own ā€œSpecial Sauceā€ on it so I donā€™t expect it to be the same as the O2, I expect it to be better

Yep - definitely need more impressions/comparisons from folk who have, or will have, both in their possession at same time.

I donā€™t have either (yet) but understand the O2, with what sounds like a pretty short nozzle, has fit issues for people so thatā€™s also got to be a factor. I considered O2 but glad I held off with Olina now incoming. Will it sound same/better/worse than the O2? Iā€™ll likely never know, but I like the fact that Iā€™ll get a taste of a high(er) quality single DD for less than half the price of the O2.

Edit: plus we get to play scavenger hunt and maybe even a gold card :boom:

I also think people are getting hung up on the 5/10, in that same statement he put it with the Aria and Dunu Titan S, which are also 5. He gave a clear recommendation. As a former college instructor who had standards, I can respect that he has them, and is clear about communicating what they are.

To give an idea of how tough the precogvision scale is, the 7Hz Timeless and Shuoer S12, are both 5.8, in addition to Mangird Tea getting roughed up at 4.3, the EJ07m is a modest 6.4, Monarch MKII is a 7, and he only has 4 sets at or above an 8, including the Sony IER-Z1R at an 8.1.

Just to add fuel to the fire: Oxygen got a 6.1 :stuck_out_tongue: I will have both and write a comparison as well, although I suspect more experienced reviewers will soon be releasing their YouTube videos on this exact comparison (e.g., Akros, Paul Wasabii, Michael Bruce, etc).

I do have ER2SE, canā€™t say Iā€™m too much satisfied with itā€™s soundstage, treble is not bright enough and isolation can use some work.
Maybe I should get some good speakers as well

Havenā€™t tried Azla yet

what is michael bruce connection to this olina linsoul bespoke project ( Bespoke Projects ā€“ Linsoul Audio ) ?
was he not the one who made the first olina prototype as we see in his december 2021 video ? State of the Shortbus Dec 2021 - YouTube

Letā€™s be Honest with ourselves here guys and gals. Everyone here already knows that this is going to be a price busting earphone at 100 bucks. Anyone that watches HBB at all can get a good sense of the kind of man he is. He ainā€™t gonna put his name on junk. Also we are all Headphone/Earphone addicts looking for that next big thing. For 100 beans we are all going to buy it lol :joy:

Just a little context, Oxygen Set 1 was an older loaner and Set 2 is my set measured out of the box. One channel on Set 2 is most of that difference. A bit of unit and measurement variation more than any changes to Oxygen over time I think.

Because that was him trying to do himself what I said I was going to do in Sept/Oct.

He helped in confirming the driver.
When he did that vid Olina was already built and in boxes. The hold up was my lyrics cars which went from China to Japan to China under covid mailing situation so the Olina got delayed for those cards :notes:

Didnā€™t expect to see so much talk about my rankings here haha. Just to lend some further context, I would say that a ā€œ5ā€ from me is about as good as it gets for $100 right now. In my mind, thatā€™s basically the equivalent of roughly a ā€œBā€ grade on Crinacleā€™s ranking list.

I donā€™t have as much data to support where this would stand on my ranking list; however, you can see below that itā€™s very high up there for $100. In fact, the only ā€œ6ā€ Iā€™ve ever awarded to a sub-$100 IEM is for the Etymotic ER2XR which, technically, was more than $100 at one point anyways.

In an ideal world, my ranking list would also be normally distributed but, again, I just donā€™t have enough data and Iā€™d rather score lower than higher. Frankly, I also didnā€™t put much thought into it when making the scoring system initially which is my fault. Maybe in the future Iā€™ll make it Gaussian, as I can completely see why a 5/10 seems like a low score at first glance.

Your rating distribution is more than fine. The log-normal distribution is even more scientific. Cited from (ā€œLog-normal distribution - Wikipediaā€ Log-normal distribution - Wikipedia): ā€œIt is a convenient and useful model for measurements in exact and engineering sciences, as well as medicine, economics and other topics (e.g., energies, concentrations, lengths, financial returns and other metrics).ā€

Taking into account the specificity of IEM, that we get a relatively small increase in quality for a technological input (read price), the number of very good products should be smaller than average and below average.

I think lognormal is more useful for values of theoretically infinitely positive values, whereas there is clearly defined range limits in +10 in precogā€™s ranking scale.

Nevertheless, I think this perceived feeling of 5 being negative (where even in Gaussian distribution it should be nothing less than average) is because of this positive bias in most reviews you see around the web (not only audiophilic) that was discussed in one of the crinacleā€™s videos. I like the rating of Precogā€™s even though it trashes most of my favourite, because it is consistent and does not take the price into the consideration (I assume) as one of the few along with Crinacle. And statement ā€œā€¦ for the priceā€ can be misleading a lot of times to the potential buyer
Have a nice weekend!

In Gaussian distribution 5 is indeed average but for log-normal 5 is well above average, at least at Precogvisionā€™s dataset. So, to make the discussion short, Olina is a very good item according to the technology involved in it (single DD) :notes:

Yes, I wrote above that it should be adjusted towards 6,5-7 score in gaussian
But eot I am waiting for my own olina to write my own impressions. All in all the expectations are really high I am hyped!

taking price in account is important but getting the big picture in order to have a sense of where the diminishing return hits is also important that is why some rating offers both : Absolute rating (not taking price in consideration) and Value rating (taking price in consideration) such as it is done here : IEM ā€“ No Borders Audiophile
