I don’t mind but I can’t give you an exact country/location. I’m in the middle east right now and hoping to be back in the states soon.
I thought that might be the case. The batteries through the mail thing was the tip-off. I have some experience with that. Stay safe over there, buddy.
I bought my MEST MKII from MusicTeck around BFCM for $900USD. Very happy at that price point. I was in the talks with someone who tried both and they said that the MKI was a bit more special, slightly elevated treble accents the outstanding technicalities.Still, MEST MKII isn’t “unsafe” I think. I also think the shell adjustments might make it slightly more comfortable for most people… even if it is a bit out there. These insert pretty deep into my ears.
Does anything under $900 come close to the MEST MKII? Not that I’ve tried, but will need to have a go at the Monarch MKII which is a hair more expensive, and I think sales might drop it to $900 eventually.
I didn’t mean to sound like I was dissin’ the Mk2s at all. I just slightly preferred the OG in the short listening time I had with the two side by side so far. You’re right about the Mk2 shell being a tad bit more comfy, but neither is uncomfortable for me at all.
As far the the $899 price from Musictek goes, it certainly makes the Mest Mk2s very hard to resist. At that price they would definitely be amongst the best.
I got mine on one of the sales and it definitely makes me think about getting them reshelled to CIEMs because we’ll why not at $1300 that’s a steal for a legit end game CIEM
I wish I had the chance to buy a NOS MEST MKI at a reasonable price. Just hard to find. I actually probably would prefer the MKI over the MKII… Maybe they’re bringing it back which might explain the sales.
To @Etroze86 , if I was looking to buy at that price and new I liked them, custom shells would definitely be something to think about. Since you have the universal version at this point, have you thought about custom tips. I have been wanting to try some Eartune Fidelity custom tips or somethibg similar on one of my UIEMs to see how well they do.
To @BlueRedYellow : When I was listening to the OGs and Mk2s back to back, the OGs are definitely a more unique tuning and I do think it gives them a little something extra that seems special. That said, the differences aren’t as big as many comparisons I have read would have you believe and if I already owned the Mk2s, I wouldn’t go hunting an OG. That’s just me though.
That’s a good idea as well but for either option I still have to find a doc to do molds of my ears. I have really shallow and big ear holes so I’ve been thinking about it for a very long time lol.
My audiologist does one for me every year or twoat my request. I just had them done in July so I could get my Supermoons and then my A12ts done. Ever since companies started using the digital copies instead of making you send in molds/models it has become a significantly faster, easier and more precise process, IMO. The fact that I have a recent scan ready to go is what got me thinking about custom tips again. I’m really curious to see how close they get to a full CIEM experience/fit.
On second thought though, I’m not sure that custom tips would work well with the bone conduction drivers in the Mest. Though, I was quite surprised at how well it seems to work with the UIEM versions. My friend thatused to own the UIEM OG an now has the CIEM Mk2 says you can immediately hear that they are much more effective with the customs.
I was reading on the Eartune site that they make the for the OG mest but not the MK2. I might try their at home kit for shits and giggles and see what kind of wild stuff they can do…(looks excitedly at Audeze i3&i4).
If you do it, you have to keep me posted on progress. That would be crazy on the Audezes!
I will for sure! I actually use some Bose comfort wing/tip things that work great but it would be cool to find something more secure.
Alright - damn. I thought we were passed eyebrow-gate … this gave me a good chuckle I have to admit.
The Monarch’s fit is notorious for being, well, horrible for most people. I cry for the sorrows of the poor beings who were blessed with elephant ears - you have my condolences, my friend. Maybe the Monarch MKIII will have a smaller shell, akin to what they did going from MKI to MKII. As tech progresses, things become smaller and smaller and smaller - it’s actually quite wild. The MEST shells look absolutely tiny compared to the Monarch’s, so I can only imagine how comfortable they are.
You do make a good point however - it seems like the Prestige may be of the same flavor to the Monarch’s in their presentation. I considered keeping both, but now you have me considering other wise … I can see my self selling the monarch’s once I find the balls to do so, picking up the MEST - and then waiting for a pair of Prestige’s to go up for sale on the 2nd hand market, essentially completing a 2 TOTL solution of IEMs.
But to comment on your life style and how you’ve been able to make friends in the music industry, that is amazing truly. I once had a friend who begun making music and he was doing really well. His band is called ‘Cat Geography’ - silly name, I know - but they released some quality stuff and it’s on all the major streaming sites as far as I can see. He’s the lead vocalist in the band and I wish I stayed in contact with him, he was a cool dude. Showed me so much music and craft beers … you really made me think about so much with your last comment and even though it was probably involuntary, I appreciate that, brother.
Ah two of my favorite things!
I looked up Cat Geography. I like it! Sounds like a cool dude. Now, I know I said the library thing in a joking manner, but I’m serious when I say that you’re blessed and it’s cool that you guys are building a friendship around the hobby. Some of my closest friendships started out in ways very similar to that.
As a relevant update, I’m picking up both versions of the Mest for a couple days of listening later on when I bring my buddy and his family some of my Christmas Eve bouillabaisse tonight. Now I’ll get some quality time with both of them to really see ehat they’re all about.
Not a bad price if you’re UK based (don’t know the seller)…
So I’m new here and i came in just to tell you guys i’ve made my biggest purchase in audio a few moments ago and that’s a new to me pair of mest mk2s(before4 it was an edition XS). Need your help for tip and source reccomendations. ( my pair doesn’t have stock tips and adapter included )
You could drive it from any low impedance source with success. I drive my MEST OG succesfully from Qudelix 5k, Shanling M0 Pro, Topping DX3Pro+ and straight of phone and laptop.
In regards to the tips - MESTs are BY FAR the most tips sensitive IEMs I ever had and most is defined by your anatomy. I had best results with smaller than usual tip size that allows them to be shoved very deeply in the ear canal so there is proper contact between the shell and your ear. My favourites in terms of timbre was AZLA Xelastecs, but those are pain in the ass to take care of. I also like Audiosense S400 and BGVP A08 and the latest is the one I have currently on. I hate foam tips in general, so take that into account.
I had no success with DUNU S&S, Spring Tips, Spinfits CP100, Spinfit W1, stock tips, Fiio HS18, BGVP E08 and A07 - but with all of them mostly due to poor size compatibility with my ear canal making the seal either impossible or not allowing me to push them too far.
I currently have kbear 07, spiral dots SF, dunu SnS and alladin stock tips in small sizes ( a bgvp blue tips also recommended here a while back ). I’ll not be getting the stock Xelastec with it else I would’ve given those a shot.
On source side I don’t have much I have VE megatron, ikko itx01, Abigail,Avani, Abigail pro, apple dongle and tanchjim space ( upcoming). I might pick up an Q5K soon to fiddle with the EQ.
Anyone tried this with ifi hip dac does it makes the vocals a bit thicker ? ( some people say they are a bit thin on vocals )
