(update in progress) Falenkor's Competitive Headphone Write Up. Now with added Hardware explanations!

The k3 is better than E10k then again, neither one are really all that great… just decent budget options. Recommend saving up and buying use market stack at around $140 or saving up to $200 to again… entry level stack just new condition. Better performance, no issues with power even in the near future, better sound, more for your moneys worth.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have experience with the Epos h6 Pro? Open and closed versions?

How does it compare to the PC38x?

Nope, though it appears to just be another variation to the H3 just potentially better? Either way, haven’t sat with either to comment on them.

I have said enough hate towards this headset and all of its glaring flaws. If I find a better headset than this I will gladly shout it out on here thats for damn sure, wouldn’t take much effort to put this thing down either…

For the record guys, you are welcome to recommend me to try things out / send things out to me. Feel free to reach out I have had a few people recommend headphones for me to try and I appreciate trying new things.

Currently in the process right now?

Shockingly Audio technicas gaming headset GL-3(recommended to look into by another thread user) highly likely to be a pass on build and comfort alone but will see on sound later
Beyers newer headsets which may be a hard pass are the new mmx series. They look decent but mmx is already a bit of a pass since its just a redone dt 770 for 3 times the price
Epos H3 and H6(considering the technology in these it may replace the pc38x)
Hifiman Edition XS(when it comes in courtesy of another thread user)… highly likely this may make the list potentially above a sundara

Note: items that may be sent to me can be covered by me via shipping costs per request, provided theres an interest in the item in question of course. For example, I had someone send me an Aeon Noire which I paid shipping fees for them Round trip.

The h6 pro is interesting as there’s a open back version and a completely separate closed back version; I’ve seen some small reviewers say they sound pretty similar and some say they sound drastically different from each other, it would be interesting to get a contrast and direct comparison to other headphones (598, 58x, PC38x etec) A lot of the big YouTube reviewers haven’t seen the touch it yet

Noticed that, I an considering grabbing the open back… I do own the pc38x so at some point I may make a direct comparison between those two. PC38x makes use of the GSP drivers and the EPOS series is essentially the series successor of the GSP.

Curious, it could be source causing signature changes… then again people hear things quite differently and not everyone can hear all the usual frequencies either.

That would be a bit of a gamble. PC38x isn’t better than the 58x by like… any degree really imo. In terms of clarity and sound quality? Like no competition there… pc38x is like a lower degree HD 560s as even the signature there is very similar.

Usually when I see that its either too new or a bad thing in that its just not that great of a headset.

Holy… I actually hate these new beyer gaming headsets mmx 100/150. Huge mixed bag, awful pads, etc. Like I understand these aren’t built at the main factory and are now in china… but this is a bit extreme… the overall quality here dropped atleast 45% and thats being a bit generous

ughh! my brain hurts.
Guys i trust you all.
it’s my last purchase, just for reference i used dt 990. liked it BUT it was TOO SHARP!
sold it.

My amp/dac is GSX 1000.
i don’t have the luxury of options either for headphones or dac/amps. because of where i live.
so please suggest what will work with GSX 1000.
can’t get stacks or anything.

i want an open-back, COMFORTABLE, has good imaging and will work for competitive games such as; Valorant, apex, r6s etc.

and good for single player games.

so an all-rounder. budget is 150$-200$
i know i ask a lot it’s just when i get suggested a headphone i can’t get it to ship to me. so i end up asking again. sorry.

if anyone could give me a list of headphones for my needs, please do so when i don’t find one i may find the other.

was it just the sharpness being too much?

Not sure if recent purchase but this thing is overpriced beyond all hell for what it is… if you paid like $200+ like how its priced here… I would recommend sending it back if possible and getting a proper dedicated unit setup as thats a hell of a lot better and less limiting on power

Plenty headphone suggestions at the top here in the actual write up.

Though if your looking for a beyer and the 990 was just too sharp… DT 880 or Tygr 300r would be the alternatives there… 300r is just 990 but nowhere near as sharp sounding and 880 is less brightness but also less bass and soundstage… its a bit more well rounded

No i got it for, 100$.
Used in a very good condition.

Hm maybe a tygr for a less sharp Beyer v or a Sennheiser 560s for a more neutral approach?

Can’t get those i tried. Tyger only comes i the bundle with a microphone. 880 can’t get it too. And it will need an amp beyond my budget.
Any other suggestions?
Thank you for taking the time to answer. I really appreciate it.

hmm, Take it from this you mean direct orders through beyerdynamic are out of the question same with third party on the tygr?

As for 880… its the same power requirement as the DT 990, so if your 990 you tried was working… the 880 will work just as well

hmm… AKG k702 if were talking competitive gaming will work… Sennheiser 560s would be the other

ah well never mind then… thats actually a good deal

Maybe a akg 702 or 712 whatever you may can get for a good price ?

702 for analytical 712 for a bit more balanced

I found k 712 pro
K 702
K7xx
What’s the better one?

Subjective… but for competitive gaming… that would be k702. However, if you are treble intolerant you can swing for the other two…

^ that is the k7xx and k712(red)

and that is k712 vs k702(green)

You can also substitute in the k612 which is essentially just the k702 with some small changes like cable and the like if its cheaper

Try the Koss Porta Pros. Good for treble sensitive, light, cheap, shockingly good sound.

Tried some in ears called ER2SE upon recommendation of Thotstomp

Not bad… not great either yet passable

few have described its soundstage is incredibly large… This is quite a lot smaller than my T1 the overall space while defined, I can tell its depth/space pretty quickly… its not like the 600 series… somewhere around the average… not really that impressive however, this is passable in gaming its just less than average compared to a good open back

bass is lacking in terms of impact by a pretty large degree… and overall the signature is rather boring outside of its rather bright highs which are not sibilant and are noticeably smoothed

the overall signature in every respect is there yet… not there… theres something that feels… missing from each portion… bass is lacking impact, mids are lacking in terms of what seems like maybe some definition, highs are a bit too energetic though this could be a cause of the in ear

Comfort wise, I am not the biggest fan of anything that has to go deep as shit into my ear canal… its just not comfortable for me but its like the only way to get a really good sound out of these… the sound is fine… for hell what… $50 discounted? Despite my complaints at that price the sound on these is fucking ridiculously good I just despise this kind of comfort I assume you can change the buds out but regardless itll always have to plug your ears… however, they do offer impeccable isolation

imaging probably due to the more lacking soundstage but the imaging is spot on… like… VERY spot on… I just wish there was more stage to place things out further

timbre is quite exceptional… it seems their goal was to try to make this as accurate as possible… for such a price? Yeah, if your goal is natural in ear… this is definitely a solid damn choice even for a gamer

I don’t think I will be keeping this one personally… however, I will be searching for a new in ear(something that doesn’t have to like scratch up to my damn ear drum in terms of depth maybe? ugh). I will say though as I got a pair of er2XR as well with these… and the xr are fun as hell to listen to… same signature… just with a bunch more bass however, despite the added bass I don’t hear quality loss or anything… so quite fun to listen to it did however lose a bit of soundstage depth

Personally speaking, if your looking for an in ear with natural signature… good for competitive gaming and just well rounded as hell while also not breaking the bank… get these on their $50 sale as they are very solid… I did however have some issues with lesser units driving them so you may or may not need a small portable unit to push these to the fullest… Even on a dedicated amp like an asgard it has to be on high gain at around 35% volume knob

@Falenkor Great timing, as I am looking for something to use for tv watching in the summer, (the AC is unavoidably nearby.) I run a coax to my dac/amp. Thanks for mentioning the power requirement, which might limit their phone use
unless I provide extra there. PS is there a Cool over ear closed back you’d suggest? Was thinking maybe ATH k361 etc, but folks say pads are warm in hot weather. Thanks.
