Please be real. I’ve been trying to reorder the tracks on the current release to be in order of appearance because the original track order is so nonsensical it hurts.
Here’s more about the Mick Gordon /id Software controversy:
(It’s long)
I am aware Bethesda soft-fails and Bethesda publishing are different entities, technically.
I don’t like the sound of the first paragraph. It just stinks of “one cripple-ÄÄÄ per quarter” and half-assing it in hopes to patch it later.
Commitment to our customers
Fuck right of Bethesda! Lying bunch of careless fucks! ← Those are three different links. One summary of fuck ups, one 3 hour collection of fuck ups and one Jim Sterling video (his ability to not loose track of the fuck ups Bethesda managed to pull is astonishing). Actually, have Yet another one
In a reply to one fan, Mick said he, “didn’t mix those and wouldn’t have done that.”
And? That text was writen by a PR department, not just one guy. No single person would just try to turn the timeline arround in their favour (except politicians, maybe).
IMHO: No company anywhere on this world has the right to be surprised to face social media outrage after a fuck-up on their end of any magnitude.
I’m as disappointed as anyone that we’re at this point, but as we have many times before, we will adapt to changing circumstances
Not buying that, at all. There was no disapointment. The project was designed by committee (= the only vision in the board room was massive CA$H) and rushed to release.
I don’t think anyone would have sued after an anouncement about the releases being postponed to ensure a quality & finished game would be released. Hell, Bethesda could have gained much needed positive PR from it…
we are at the point of moving on and won’t be working with Mick on the DLC we currently have in production.
Have the bugs in the game been fixed?
I really could not care less for the game after reviews saying Doom Eternal took a turn towards generic shooter and it not expanding on established concepts of Doom (2016) combined with level designs showing a lack of care / rush to release.
My guess is there is blame to go around. Did id cut corners and rush things to hit an artificial deadline? Probably. Did they step on Gordon’s toes in so doing? Probably. Did Gordon handle it well? Probably not. Is it the first time an artist and a client have ever experienced conflict? Nope. Won’t be the last the either.
I played the first handful of levels and thought the game was meh. Caveat: I admit to 1) not playing games much anymore and 2) not wanting to think very hard when I do. My job requires a ton of both quantitative and qualitative reasoning and problem solving, plus constantly trying to guess what questions I’m going to be asked and why. It’s mentally draining. Doom Eternal requires too much mental effort for me to really get into it after doing that kind of work for 8+ hours. I miss the simple “if it moves, shoot it” mentality of classic Doom (newer titles like Dusk have been fun). That’s relaxing. The weapon upgrading and switching and glory kills and chainsaw kills and punches and flame belches and on and on, no problem with those who enjoy that but it doesn’t offer me enough mental escapism to keep coming back. That type of thinking and strategizing on the fly is too close to work for me.
so here is what went wrong (as far as I can tell)
- Bethesda promised the soundtrack with the collector’s edition before the soundtrack even existed
- They then didn’t even try to contract Mick to make the soundtrack about three months befor release.
- It seems the soundtrack was always intended to be a rush job (only 12 tracks, less than three months, id being concerned about the feasibility of deadlines, etc.)
- It seems that either id didn’t ask for or Mick didn’t provide the original sources for Chad to mix.
- Chad had even less time than Mick to mix 47 tracks from the highly compress game files he had access to. (This is the reason for some of the songs being so compressed and for the sloppy mixing/mistakes for others)
And finally, Bethesda shunted this under cooked ost out the door with little to no concern for quality. All they cared about was not having to give a few people refunds. I mean really, how many refunds would they really have had to give. No one who bought the collector’s edition would suddenly hate the game because they have to what a bit longer for the music to be mixed properly. I’m certain that the loss of soundtrack sails will out weigh the loss of any possible refunds 3 fold.
Unfortunately, this seems to have understandably upset Mick, and his actions after the soundtrack released seem to have gotten him fired. The best I think we can reasonably hope for at this point is for Chad to hopefully fix some of the more blatant mistakes (like the bit of a voice line present in the shotgun racking part of S.O.S from earth) before the soundtrack launches to the public. I still hope they let Mick remix the whole album, even if they try to sell it along side the rushed version like the corporate gouls they are.
@MazeFrame I can assure you that Doom Eternal is the farthest thing from a generic shooter any game has ever been. It’s more like if Quake 3 arena was a single player Doom game. The levels are all great in my opinion and at least circle the bugs have been VERY minimal (like nearly non existent). @WaveTheory gave some pretty accurate critique of the game there. It is very fast, frantic, and a bit stressful. It is more like playing dark souls than normal difficulty witcher 3 if that makes sence. Dusk is great for that genuine classic experience along with amid evil, ion fury, and wrath:aeon of ruin (still in development).
Fuck I hate corperations.
Something else I just realized. Bethesda allowed the game to be delayed by 5 months, but they shunnted the soundtrack out in such a sorry state. I really hate corperate desicion making.
My favorite OST by far :
A really recent OST :
Motördone is amazing!
Activision and Vicarious Vision created a Tony Hawk Pro Skater playlist on Spotify.
It’s a cover of an entire soundtrack.
I absolutely love the Nier Automata soundtrack.
It was so good that I imported the Japanese Vinyl Boxset
One of the few soundtracks that leave me speechless everytime
My favorite track that isn’t on any Album
I discovered this recently.
It is so adorably amusing
throw in some Domina and dungeon fighter osts in here lol I play a ton of games so I get to hear a absolute load of music. Still think Nier has some of the best of late
Those are not common opinions these days, as most people aside from the most hardcore classic Doom purists like Eternal more, myself included.
I played the 2016 version at the time and loved it, but after getting used to Eternal’s extremely fast paced combat and low-ammo weapons that don’t allow for favorites, I can never go back.
I did try to go back once but the very slow speed and limited combat mechanics of 2016’s bore me to tears…
Great art style - beautiful music - pretty quick / relaxing play-through - on sale for $6 on Steam right now - recommended
So happy they got James Hannigan back for EG2.
I’ve never played this game, but I love this song.
Edit.
Actually I don’t think this game ever came out. The last kickstarter update was in 2017 and I literally can’t find any updates on the project lol.
Xenon2 on the amiga had this tune…
Not quite my taste, but the tune going is quite catchy, and i did play the game quite a bit on a friends Amiga, before i got hold of an amiga 500 myself
